The Standardbred Re-Homing Manager will be responsible for the implementation of re-homing activities within NSW. These activities will be developed in conjunction with the Executive Management of HRNSW and will align with the aims and objectives of the HRNSW re-homing policies.

The broad Strategies are:

 

  • The development and implementation of approved Re-homing activities.
  • To develop and implement approved strategies for standardbred horses at the end of their racing careers.
  • Ensure that the HRNSW equine welfare policies are managed and adhered to in every respect by all industry participants and associates.


The above broad strategies will be achieved by:

 

  1. Fulfil the aims and objectives of re-homing in NSW.
  2. Maintaining records of re-homing registrations and implementing improvements to the registration and location of all standardbred horses.
  3. Maintain communication with approved re-homing facilities and trainers and encourage the development of new facilities.
  4. Maintain company records to the level consistent with the Corporations Law.
  5. Prepare media releases and keep participants and owners informed.
  6. Keep up to date with state laws, welfare issues, safe practices and any other matters associated with the after racing life of a standardbred horse.
  7. Development and implementation of welfare policies for Standardbred horses after approval by HRNSW.


The principal focus of the position is to develop, implement and monitor policies, procedures, standards and systems for the re-homing of standardbred horses in NSW.

This position plays a vital role in the overall administration of the re-homing activities and has regular Board preparation and reporting requirements.

 

Integrity & Probity Requirements:

The position has integrity and probity requirements for which the following conditions apply:

 

  • A Probity Assessment undertaken through NSW Police.
  • Completion of a Pecuniary Interests Declaration.
  • Completion of a Confidentiality Agreement.

 

Duties:

 

  • Fulfilling the aims and objectives of Harness Racing NSW re-homing.
  • Maintaining records of re-homing registrations and implementing improvements to the registration  and location of all standardbred horses.
  • Maintain communication with approved re-homing facilities and trainers and encourage the development of new facilities.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with HRNSW Executive Management and the Integrity Division and report issues when necessary;
  • Maintain company records to the level consistent with the Corporations Law..
  • Prepare media releases in conjunction with the Harness Racing NSW media department and keep participants and owners informed.
  • Keep up to date with state laws, welfare issues, safe practices and any other matters associated with the after racing life of a standardbred horse.
  • Development and implementation of welfare policies for standardbred horses after approval by      Executive Management.
  • Prepare agendas and reports for the monthly Board meetings
  • Write a monthly Board Report including comments on financials;
  • Maintain company records in accordance with the Corporations Act

 

Skills:

 

  • Ability to liaise with many and varied industry participants to achieve the re-homing objectives.
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills.
  • Commitment to customer service and satisfaction.
  • Ability to talk to the media
  • High level of computer literacy with particular regard to MS Office (specifically Excel) and Word
  • High level of financial literacy
  • Commitment to working individually and without direct supervision.
  • Time management is essential in this role.


Experience:

 

  • Experience with standardbred horses, industry structures, re-homers and re-trainers.
  • Experience with goal setting and review of performance against objectives.


Desirable:

 

  • Appropriate equine qualifications will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of/experience in not for profit sector.
  • Secretarial and financial skills


Additional:

 

  • Some out of usual business hours and on call work will be required including attendance at functions representing the HRNSW.
  • Undertake intrastate travel and attend meetings where required.
  • Possession of a current NSW Driver’s Licence is essential.

  • Support Executive Management decisions and ensure that all commitments made are followed through.
  • Lead and develop industry participants through change, maintain a positive and constructive attitude that promotes confidence in those around them.


Delivery of Results:

 

  • Ensure that the re-homing in NSW is measurably advancing towards best practice standards in its re-homing operations.


Communication and Relationship Management:

 

  • Ensure an open, positive, respectful and constructive style of communication in all interactions and engage key stakeholders in meaningful and sustainable relationships.
  • When requested, contribute to national activities and ensure coordination of local processes and activities.
  • Professionally represent HRNSW at the local, State and National level as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality and discretion is exercised in all activities.
  • Encourage regular feedback from participants and the Board regarding the approach to programs and projects.


Occupational Health & Safety:

 

  • Participate in the ongoing improvement of OH&S plans and procedures and visibly and constantly support implementation in your area.
  • Ensure that participants in your area are fully aware of safety plans and expectations, and that they are actively encouraged to participate and contribute.
  • Shows evidence of reasonable steps taken to comply with HRNSW OH&S guidelines.
  • Ensure that action is taken in identifying hazards, assessing risk, and reporting incidents
  • Demonstrate an appropriate duty of care.
