FORMER New Zealander Johns Boy is expected to have no trouble continuing his perfect Australian record this weekend.

Making his debut for Victorian-based trainer Brent Lilley on New Year's Day, Johns Boy captured the Echuca Trotters' Cup with ease.

The son of Simon Roydon then scored in Wedderburn before securing last Sunday's Birchip Trotters' Cup.

"He's been a good pick up for the stable," Lilley said. "He has very good standing start manners, which has played a big role in his runs here so far."

Heading interstate on Saturday night, Johns Boy is engaged in the Mount Gambier Trotters' Cup, which is also a standing start.

To be driven by Tristan Larsen, the gelding will begin from a 20-metre backmark.

"He won off 10 last week and now he's gone back another 10 metres, which is never easy, particularly on a small track," Lilley said.

"It's only a small field though, so there won't be much traffic, and the race is over 2580 metres, which gives him plenty of time to get into it."

Lilley will also be represented by Maestro, which will begin from the front row with Lochie Cook in the cart.

Maestro won the Gunbower Trotters' Cup last December.

"He hasn't put his best foot forward in his last few starts, but hopefully that is behind him," Lilley said. "He trialled well in Melton last week and his work has been solid."
