Shepparton, Tuesday 15 October

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: SHAQ (4) is resuming since June but he raced without cover for the final 700m and battled on well for second at a Bendigo trial effort last week so he should run a good race first up. BANDIT EYES (8) would clearly be the top pick had he drawn on the front line but he may be shuffled back on the markers from the awkward draw. He settled in a rearward position and finished off strongly for a game third behind Honest Harriette at Shepparton last week. LENIU (9) backed up several handy trial performances with a runaway victory at his debut. He is facing a steep rise in class but he obviously has ability and is worth following. INDI AIR TONIGHT (5) is better than her form reads and POPS JOY (11) recorded handy time in her maiden success at Newcastle.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 5

SELECTIONS: SHAQ (4), BANDIT EYES (8), LENIU (9), INDI AIR TONIGHT (5)

RATINGS: 4,8/ 9/ 5,11/ 3,7

SUGGESTED BET: SHAQ (4) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: HOORAH PHILTRA (10) settled three back on the markers, used the sprint lane and finished fast when a game second behind Jaccka Connor last week. He struck trouble in the Reg Withers Classic prior and he appears to be well placed against this line up. THEROCKGOD (4) settled down last and produced a strong finish out wide on the track when an eye-catching third in the same race won by Jaccka Connor last week. He has been racing very well but without luck and deserves to break through for a win. DAT LOU (8) is awkwardly drawn on the inside of the second line but he is he has won three of his past five starts and is capable of figuring in the finish. He pushed forward to find the lead and defeated HOORAH PHILTRA (10) at a Shepparton victory on September 10. OZZIE PUNTA (9) is a strong pacer and was very unlucky at Bendigo on October 02 so he cannot be left out of calculations.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3

SELECTIONS: HOORAH PHILTRA (10), THEROCKGOD (4), DAT LOU (8), OZZIE PUNTA (9)

RATINGS: 4,10/ 8/ 9/ 2,3

SUGGESTED BET: HOORAH PHILTRA (10) each way

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: BETTER SAINT (11) pushed around the field mid-race to park without cover and went down fighting when a game third behind Arraps at Shepparton last outing. He endured a similar hard run when he scored at Shepparton on September 17 and he should be competitive again. EPIC ORION (9) will appreciate a drop back in class on his latest performances and should improve on his numerical form. He has had four starts since returning from a Queensland campaign and has won three races at Shepparton previously. CRESCO THREEPEAT (10) pushed forward to race without cover and was very strong at the finish when he got up to win at Albury last week. This race is no harder and he is worth thought again. The emergency FINAL BOW (1) is perfectly drawn and has claims now that she has gained a start. Other chances include MYNAMEISRUBY (4), TOPHUT JOHNY (7) and SPEEDY SPIDA (8).

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely early leader), 1,2,5

SELECTIONS: BETTER SAINT (11), EPIC ORION (9), CRESCO THREEPEAT (10), FINAL BOW (1)

RATINGS:11/ 9,10/ 1/ 4,7,8

SUGGESTED BET: BETTER SAINT (11) to win

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: MISS FRANCENE (9) copped plenty of pressure in the leading role and finished seventh in a strong race at Bendigo then finished third in a handy race at Yarra Valley last week. She appears to be well placed against this opposition and is worth an investment. CREATABLE (11) gets into this race with a concession claim and will appreciate his easiest assignment for some time. He was runner up behind Hadtobeharry at Shepparton in June and his latest unplaced effort was behind Aldebaran Boyd in a slick mile rate of 1.57.8 at Geelong. ASTRO (2) has struck peak form having had two wins and two seconds from his past four starts. He settled midfield, angled wide on the home turn and finished off solidly for second behind Partytime last week so he is worth thought again. TOUGHER (6) worked home well for second behind STRAIGHT TO THETOP (7) at Yarra Valley last week and is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely early leader), 7

SELECTIONS: MISS FRANCENE (9), CREATABLE (11), ASTRO (2), TOUGHER (6)

RATINGS: 9,11/ 2/ 6,7/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: MISS FRANCENE (9) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: It is a very open race with several winning chances. SHEZABLUECHIP (8) has been placed in three of her past four starts and finished third behind Jay Bee in a slightly stronger race at Yarra Valley last outing so she gets the nod. OHEMMJAY CRESCO (9) has been placed at his past four starts and fought on strongly after racing on the outside of the leader when second at Albury last outing. He is versatile and looms as one of the leading chances. TEX GOES BANG (10) was held up for a run at a vital stage and worked through nicely for second behind Salsboy last week. He is usually competitive against this class and is worth an investment. MURIEL (1) is a possible improver from the perfect draw.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 1,2,6

SELECTIONS: SHEZABLUECHIP (8), OHEMMJAY CRESCO (9), TEX GOES BANG (10), MURIEL (1)

RATINGS: 8,9/ 10/ 1,5,11/ 2,3,6/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: SHEZABLUECHIP (8) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: HURRICANE JANE (2) left a trailing position and moved up without cover when fourth behind Partytime after a close second behind Dona Amalia. She is racing well and is worth an investment. BENNIE AND THE JETS (11) has galloped as the popular elect at his only two Australian starts to date. He is resuming since June and hasn’t been to the trials but his form in New Zealand was sound so he cannot be left out of calculations. LIZZIES SON (10) was confidently supported at Yarra Valley last outing but he broke stride at the start and lost his chance. He is better than his form reads and must be included amongst the leading chances. MACHO MAORI (7) did well after working hard at his latest third and IVAR (8) is worth thought from his trailing trail.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (likely leader), 4,7

SELECTIONS: HURRICANE JANE (2), BENNIE AND THE JETS (11), LIZZIES SON (10), MACHO MAORI (7)

RATINGS: 2/ 10,11/ 7,8/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: HURRICANE JANE (2) each way

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: ANOTHER PUDDIN (1) performed extremely well at the trials prior to a sixth at Bendigo ($2-30 fav) when resuming. He is ideally drawn and has more ability than he has shown at his two starts to date so he must be given another chance. ROWDY CHRISTIAN (4) is a former New South Wales trained pacer, which joins trainer Rebecca Bartley. He produced a tidy performance when third behind Nomorelying at a Shepparton trial in August and has the ability to figure in the finish. LEONARD (9) didn’t have much luck when fourth at Bendigo last outing and has claims from his trailing draw. TREACHEROUS JEWEL (3) and ONTHEDARKSIDE (5) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 3

SELECTIONS: ANOTHER PUDDIN (1), ROWDY CHRISTIAN (4), LEONARD (9). TREACHEROUS JEWEL (3)

RATINGS: 1,4/ 9/ 3,5/ 2

SUGGESTED BET: ROWDY CHRISTIAN (4) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: ALAMO (6) has been placed at his past three attempts and deserves to break through for a win. He led out then took cover and had no luck in the straight when third behind Jimmy Breeze in a slick mile rate of 1.55.5 at Ballarat last outing. LA FRANK (7) has ability but is still learning. He settled midfield and didn’t have much room in the straight when third at Swan Hill last week. ROYLE BLOOD (1) has been runner up in two of her past three starts and is drawn to go well again. She settled three back on the markers and finished a distant second behind Leniu last week. FRANKIE FIREFLY (5) has had a few gait issues throughout his career spanning fourteen starts to date but he did win a trial at Shepparton last week so he is a possible improver.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (likely leader), 1,2

SELECTIONS: ALAMO (6), LA FRANK (7), ROYLE BLOOD (1), FRANKIE FIREFLY (5)

RATINGS: 6/ 1,7/ 5/ 2,8/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: ALAMO (6) to win

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: SKY LINDY (5) appeared to be the winner when turning for home but she started to trot very roughly and lost momentum at her Shepparton second on September 24. She made an error and lost her chance last week. She is still learning but has a lot of ability and will take beating if she delivers a fool proof display. FLYIN TIME (4) is resuming since May but was placed at a recent Kilmore trial performance and strikes a suitable assignment first up. She was runner up behind Remus Phoenix at Maryborough during her last preparation, which is a very strong form pointer for this event. ILDEFONSO (2) ran a reasonable race for fifth when on debut and should be improved by the experience. He has claims along with ZIPTIE (3) and the fast beginner ALABAMA MAY (6).

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 3

SELECTIONS: SKY LINDY (5), FLYIN TIME (4), ILDEFONSO (2), ZIPTIE (3)

RATINGS: 4,5/ 2/ 3/ 6/ 1

SUGGESTED BET: SKY LINDY (5) to win
