Melton, Saturday 12 October

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW:  ONE OVER ALL (13) produced a strong performance when second in the Kilmore Cup and he is the emergency for the Bill Collins Sprint so he appears to be well placed against this line up. ROCKINWITHATTITUDE (12) appeared to have her chance after trailing the leader and finishing fourth behind Ollivici last week but she is a multiple Group 1 winning mare and she did very well during the Queensland Winter Carnival so she is worth another chance. PARISIAN ARTISTE (11) did a great job to finish in third over the staying trip of 3150m at his first run since August and he should be competitive under these conditions. ALDEBARAN VERA (3) is resuming since August but she will be fitter for a recent trial fourth at Terang, where she took on the pacers. She finished third behind ONE OVER ALL (13) in the Wagon Apollo FFA and won the Lightfoot Laurels during her last preparation so she has the class to figure in the finish.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 4,5,6,7

SELECTIONS: ONE OVER ALL (13), ROCKINWITHATTITUDE (12), PARISIAN ARTISTE (11), ALDEBARAN VERA (3)

RATINGS: 12,13/ 11/ 3/ 4/ 1,8

SUGGESTED BET: ONE OVER ALL (13) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: LIKE A WILDFIRE (10) finished unplaced in both the Kilmore Cup and the Smoken Up Sprint at his first two starts back from a break but both efforts were very good as he was hitting the line strongly from back. This race is slightly easier and he will be hard to hold out in the run to the finish. BEYOND DELIGHT (7) is resuming since a tenth at Menangle in March but he has performed very nicely at the trials with a win and a close up third behind Act Now. He boasts an impressive strike rate and he possesses high speed so he must be respected despite the wide draw. BULLETPROOF BOY (9) was aggressively driven and did well to get the prize when he fought off HELLUVA (6) to win at Geelong. He continues to perform well and looms as one of the leading chances again. CANTFINDABETTORMAN (11) lost his winning chance after galloping away in the Smoken Up Sprint last week. He finished gamely for a close second behind Captain Ravishing in the Graham Goffin Memorial prior and is worth another chance.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 3,6,7

SELECTIONS: LIKE A WILDFIRE (10), BEYOND DELIGHT (7), BULLETPROOF BOY (9), CANTFINDABETTORMAN (11)

RATINGS: 7,10/ 1,9,11/ 13/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: LIKE A WILDFIRE (10) each way

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: AARDIES EXPRESS (2) endured a torrid run when ninth in the Len Smith Mile then quickly bounced back into winning form when she led throughout to win the Frith Stakes in effortless fashion at Menangle last week. She is an outstanding mare and is clearly the horse to beat from her good draw. MAJOR DELIGHT (5) won five races in succession prior to tackling a top field in the TAB Eureka, where she was without cover early before gaining a trail. She boasts the exceptional record of 22 wins from 28 starts and should make her presence felt. SWEET BELLA (11) is stepping up to the open class mares for the first time but she dominated her rivals when she won the Super Series Final at her latest attempt and her only defeat for the season was behind the top colt Bay of Biscay so she must be rated highly. TAY TAY (12) and SAHARA BREEZE (13) are both capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and are knockout chances if there is a genuine tempo throughout.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 4,5

SELECTIONS: AARDIES EXPRESS (2), MAJOR DELIGHT (5), SWEET BELLA (11), SAHARA BREEZE (13)

RATINGS: 2/ 5,11/ 4,12,13/ 8,9,10

SUGGESTED BET: AARDIES EXPRESS (2) to win

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: Australia’s champion trotter JUST BELIEVE (4) has had another phenomenal season having had twelve wins from his fourteen starts. He hasn’t been fully extended in all of his three wins since returning from an enormously successful New Zealand campaign and he is clearly the horse to beat again. CALLMETHEBREEZE (11) has the task ahead from the outside of the second line over the sprint distance but his win in the Kilmore Cup was simply breathtaking and he did defeat JUST BELIEVE (4) over this distance in the Great Southern Star Final earlier in the year. OLLIVICI (2) is a very fast beginner and continues to build on his consistent record. He got home best to win over QUEEN ELIDA (9) last week and is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern. ALDEBARAN ZEUS (3) performs best over the sprint distance and returned to form with a runaway success at Menangle last week. He is drawn to go well and a case can be made for most horses competing in this outstanding field of trotters.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely early leader), 3,4,7

SELECTIONS: JUST BELIEVE (4), CALLMETHEBREEZE (11), OLLIVICI (2), ALDEBARAN ZEUS (3)

RATINGS: 4/ 2,11/ 3/ 8,9/ 5/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: JUST BELIEVE (4) to win

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: BEST DEAL (2) is an exceptionally fast colt and is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern. He led out then took cover and finished off in a sensational last quarter of 26.3 seconds to gun down BAY OF BISCAY (11) in his heat of this series last week. BAY OF BISCAY (11) worked to the front and was outgunned in his heat performance but he was far from disappointing and he can turn the tables on BEST DEAL (2) if the race turns out to be a real staying test. He ran a huge race for second in the Queensland Derby and he finished fast when second in the TAB Eureka. MIKI TO SUCCESS (3) won the Super Series and backed up with his victory in a heat last week, where he was without cover early and ended up gaining a one out and one back trail. He is drawn to gain a trail just off the speed and must be included amongst the leading chances again. KINGMAN (8) has been very brave at his past two efforts and is suited over the staying distance but he will need some luck from his awkward draw. HES FROM HEAVEN (1) and SOME AMERICAN (6) are both racing well enough to make their presence felt.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely early leader), 1,4,6

SELECTIONS: BEST DEAL (2), BAY OF BISCAY (11), MIKI TO SUCCESS (3), KINGMAN (8)

RATINGS: 2,11/ 3,8/ 1,6/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: BEST DEAL (2) to win

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: The Queensland champion LEAP TO FAME (3) continued his impressive season with an effortless win in the Smoken Up Sprint last week, where he worked forward from a wide gate and found the lead with a lap remaining. He produced an enormous effort to win the Blacks A Fake with ease during the Queensland Winter Carnival and he has only been defeated once in fifteen starts for the season so he is clearly the horse to beat. CATCH A WAVE (2) has won three Group 1 races this season including the Len Smith Mile on September 07. He held his own in the straight when fifth in the Smoken Up Sprint and should run a big race from his ideal draw. SWAYZEE (12) won the New Zealand Cup last season and has staged some great battles with LEAP TO FAME (3) over the past two seasons. The barrier draw is a big disadvantage but he is too good to dismiss. MACH DAN (1) is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern and is not without a chance. MAX DELIGHT (4) and ACT NOW (5) are both former Victoria Cup champions but will be at longer odds here, such is the quality of this outstanding line up.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely early leader), 2,3,5

SELECTIONS: LEAP TO FAME (3), CATCH A WAVE (2), SWAYZEE (12), MACH DAN (1)

RATINGS: 3/ 2,12/ 1/ 6,8/ 7,10,11/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: LEAP TO FAME (3) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: COASTAL BABE (2) created a big impression at her Australian debut after she led throughout and dashed home in a sensational last quarter of 26.1 seconds. She is a multiple Group 1 winning filly from New Zealand and is drawn to go close. AARDIE B MIKI (3) won the Queensland Oaks during the Winter Carnival and won nicely at her Victorian debut, where she led throughout. She recorded a mile rate that was 2.6 seconds quicker than the heat won by COASTAL BABE (2) and she is very strong so she should prove hard to beat. SHOWSOMEJOY (8) won the Super Series Final then followed with a second in her heat after she trailed the leader and held her own in a super final quarter. She has the perfect trailing draw and looms as one of the leading chances again. KISS (6) was headed off at the start and ended up being three back on the markers when a creditable third in her heat performance. She is a tough filly and will appreciate being drawn out in the open this evening so she warrants respect. STITCHED UP DAN (11) is racing extremely well and rates as a knockout chance.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3

SELECTIONS: COASTAL BABE (2), AARDIE B MIKI (3), SHOWSOMEJOY (8), KISS (6)

RATINGS: 2,3/ 8/ 6,11/ 10,12

SUGGESTED BET: COASTAL BABE (2) to win

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: EXOTIC BUSHRANGER (5) has failed to beat a runner to the line at his past two attempts but he competed in the Super Series Final and in the Kilmore Cup in those two performances so he will appreciate a massive drop back in class. He defeated the outstanding filly Very Pretty at a Melton victory on July 20 and a repeat performance will see him go close to winning here. HES A MEISTER (2) is facing a rise in class but his latest effort was outstanding. He settled down last, was the widest runner turning for home and finished off fast in a last half of 56.4 seconds to finish in fourth. He won comfortably at Geelong prior and is drawn to run a big race. SHANLOU (3) is a strong mare that pushed forward to find the lead when she finished a close second behind the smart pacer Fighter Command at Melton last outing. She will take catching if she is able to find the lead again here. YOUNGGIFTEDANDBLACK (8) might end up being three back on the markers from the inside of the second line but she is racing in peak form and should be finding the line nicely.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 2,4

SELECTIONS: EXOTIC BUSHRANGER (5), HES A MEISTER (2), SHANLOU (3), YOUNGGIFTEDANDBLACK (8)

RATINGS: 5/ 2,3/ 8/ 4,6,7/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: HES A MEISTER (2) each way

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: KEAYANG ZAHARA (4) continued her dominance when she blitzed her rivals in the Need for Speed Final at Melton last week. She remains undefeated from eight starts and is clearly the horse to beat again. VIOLET STANFORD (13) suffered her first defeat in nine starts when she was outgunned by KEAYANG ZAHARA (4) in the Super Series Final. The barrier draw is a disadvantage but she is an outstanding filly and should be running home well. MAORIS MAC (11) did well for second last week, where she pushed forward to race without cover. She is very versatile and is a place chance again. JILLIBY BALLERINI (3) is yet to miss a place in seven starts and she should run her usual honest race. LINK IN BIO (5) possesses early speed and is worth thought in multiple combinations.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible early leader), 4

SELECTIONS: KEAYANG ZAHARA (4), VIOLET STANFORD (13), MAORIS MAC (11), JILLIBY BALLERINI (3)

RATINGS: 4/ 13/ 3,11/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 4/ 11,13/ 3,5,11,13 (Cost $6)
