Shepparton, Tuesday 2 July

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: APIECEOFLOU (9) is dropping back in class on his recent performances and is likely to improve on his numerical form. He scored at Bendigo in February and boasts a consistent record at Shepparton. LENNY LINCOLN (4) showed good gate speed from a wide draw and used plenty of energy at the start when a handy fourth at Shepparton last week. He has performed consistently since coming from New Zealand and deserves to break through for a win. SASSINESS (3) was resuming since November when she came from last and finished fifth behind Chirripo at Shepparton. She is much better drawn for this assignment and is worth a ticket each way. WATCH IT HAPPEN (2) trailed the leader and used the sprint lane to win last outing. He is drawn to gain a nice trail close to the speed again so he is worth thought.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 4,6

SELECTIONS: APIECEOFLOU (9), LENNY LINCOLN (4), SASSINESS (3), WATCH IT HAPPEN (2)

RATINGS: 9/ 4/ 2,3/ 7,8,10

SUGGESTED BET: APIECEOFLOU (9) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: IVE AN IDEA (1) settled four back on the markers, used the sprint lane and finished off quickly for a close third at Swan Hill last outing. She is perfectly drawn and should prove hard to beat. ALICES SWEETHEART (6) trailed the leader and used the sprint lane when a close third at Wagga. That was her first run since August so she will be fitter and should be very competitive under these conditions. ALAMO (7) attempted to lead all of the way when second at Yarra Valley on Monday. He missed out narrowly at Shepparton two starts ago so he is getting close to a win. FRUGAL FARE (4) followed several handy trial performances with a game debut second behind She’s Poppy. He has ability and is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 1,4,7

SELECTIONS: IVE AN IDEA (1), ALICES SWEETHEART (6), ALAMO (7), FRUGAL FARE (4)

RATINGS: 1,6/ 7/ 4/ 3

SUGGESTED BET: IVE AN IDEA (1) each way

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: THATS YOUR OPINION (11) is resuming since December but worked home well for second at a Bendigo trial effort last week and strikes a suitable assignment first up. CABIN CREW (4) hasn’t raced since March 2023 but he ran home quite well for third behind the handy trotter Lots of Change at his latest trial effort so he warrants consideration. JACKOFALLTRADES (2) races best when he is close to the lead so he is ideally drawn to suit his racing pattern. He led when second at Shepparton on May 15 and he should be prominent throughout again. SWEET MAORI MISS (6) showed good gate speed at her latest second and has claims along with OPRAH DOUBLE YOU (7), which finished strongly at her latest Echuca third.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 1,6

SELECTIONS: THAT’S YOUR OPINION (11), CABIN CREW (4), JACKOFALLTRADES (2), SWEET MAORI MISS (6)

RATINGS: 11/ 2,4/ 6/ 3,7/ 1/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: THAT’S YOUR OPINION (11) each way

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: MYBOYMYBOY (3) has been racing well in New South Wales and gets into this race nicely with a concession claim. He worked home well for second in a slick mile rate of 1.55.8 at Wagga two starts ago. BRONSKI MOMENT (9) was held up badly for a run and should have finished closer than sixth at Yarra Valley last outing. He can sprint to the line quickly with the right trail forward and appears to be a good each way bet. OUR MYSTERY BET (11) endured a tough run on the outside of the leader when fourth behind Ruby Wingate last outing. He has won two of his past four starts against similar grade and should be competitive again. TREACHEROUSTIMES (5) has been placed in four of his past five starts and missed out narrowly at Yarra Valley last outing so he must be respected.

EARLY SPEED: 7 (possible leader), 5

SELECTIONS: MYBOYMYBOY (3), BRONSKI MOMENT (9), OUR MYSTERY BET (11), TREACHEROUSTIMES (5)

RATINGS: 3/ 9,11/ 5/ 6,8,10

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: SCHEMING (2) raced without cover throughout and battled on strongly for second behind Rudy Gee at Yarra Valley on Monday. She showed a return to form last outing and is drawn to give a bold showing. THESTATESMAN (8) is awkwardly drawn for his first run since February but he is a classy 3yo pacer that boasts a consistent record. He won a trial at Bacchus Marsh over Rocknroll Gronk on Saturday and will take beating if he gains normal luck in running. STAG PARTY (10) has been racing at Metropolitan level and will find this race to be much easier. CHANGEOVER GIRL (7) is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and made ground from a long way back when fifth at Melton last time. EL BOSTON (3) had no luck last outing and PROTAGONIST (4) is a former New South Wales trained pacer, which joins astute mentor Wayne Potter.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,2,4,5

SELECTIONS: SCHEMING (2), THESTATESMAN (8), STAG PARTY (10), CHANGEOVER GIRL (7)

RATINGS: 2,8/ 10/ 7/ 4/ 3/ 1

SUGGESTED BET: SCHEMING (2) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: ESS KAY HOLLYWOOD (7) was resuming since an unplaced effort in the Breeders Crown in November when he worked hard but performed below expectations at Yarra Valley on Monday. He performed nicely at the trials prior and his class will take him a long way to winning here. LARR DEES SON (5) is resuming since June and he hasn’t been to the trials but he possesses early speed and should give a bold showing if he is somewhere near his peak form. STICK WITH ME (6) gained a nice trail and finished off best to win at Melton last outing. She is meeting a slightly tougher field here but she is worth thought again. THE CHOOK (9) worked home nicely for third at a Bendigo trial performance on Monday and should be competitive under these conditions.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 1,3

SELECTIONS: ESS KAY HOLLYWOOD (7), LARR DEES SON (5), STICK WITH ME (6), THE CHOOK (9)

RATINGS: 7/ 5/ 6,9/ 3/ 2

SUGGESTED BET: ESS KAY HOLLYWOOD (7) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: EYE SEE PHILTRA (8) circled around the field mid-race to park without cover and battled on well for fourth at Echuca last outing. He scored at Shepparton prior and looms as one of the leading chances again. LAVADA GOLD (6) came from last and was held up badly for a run in the latter stages when an unlucky fifth at Yarra Valley last outing. He is widely drawn but should be competitive under these conditions. ONECROWDEDHOUR (7) finished fast to win at Ballarat on May 01 and his past efforts have been sound so he is worth a ticket each way. CHEEKI PHILTRA (3) and KELLYS IDEAL (10) both have claims in an open betting event.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 3,5

SELECTIONS: EYE SEE PHILTRA (8), LAVADA GOLD (6), ONECROWDEDHOUR (7), KELLYS IDEAL (10)

RATINGS: 6,8/ 7/ 10/ 3/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: EYE SEE PHILTRA (8) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: LOVE WATCH (8) has won two of his three starts to date and should prove very hard to beat again. He finished off fast when a game winner over Ya Bottom Dollar at Bendigo at his latest attempt. CORNISHTOWN KID (4) began quickly from the outside of the front row and progressed forward to find the lead when he finished third at Bendigo. He performed very well at the trials prior and is worth another chance. FOLLOWTHEACE (5) has also performed well at the trials and is capable of showing up prominently. SHES BEWITCHED (2) began quickly from the pole position and was able to lead throughout at Wagga last outing. She is meeting a stronger field here but is drawn to be prominent throughout.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 1,4

SELECTIONS: LOVE WATCH (8), CORNISHTOWN KID (4), FOLLOWTHEACE (5), SHES BEWITCHED (2)

RATINGS: 8/ 4/ 2,5/ 1,6,7/ 3

SUGGESTED BET: LOVE WATCH (8) to win

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: FAVOURITEHIGHLIGHT (6) was able to lead throughout after starting from the pole position at Shepparton on June 09. He came from last when a game third at Yarra Valley on Monday and is worth thought again. NOBLE JULIA (3) was checked several times in the run and did a very good job to finish in third at Echuca on Wednesday. She has been placed in two of her past three starts and rates as a value hope. PINNACLE HOPE (8) went very hard in the early stages and tired late when unplaced at Echuca last outing. He is awkwardly drawn but is racing better than his form reads. MYNAMEISRUBY (4) and FANTASY BEACH (11) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 2,3,4,5,7

SELECTIONS: FAVOURITEHIGHLIGHT (6), NOBLE JULIA (3), PINNACLE HOPE (8), FANTASY BEACH (11)
