Shepparton, Tuesday 22 October

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: APIECEOFLOU (9) will appreciate a significant drop back in class for this assignment and should prove hard to beat. He drew poorly and dropped out to a rearward position so he had excuses at his latest ninth and he had no clear run when an unlucky fourth prior. ARRAPS (6) began quickly to find the lead and held off his rivals to win at Shepparton last outing. He has won two of his past four starts and looms as one of the leading chances again. EASTBRO JESSE (11) was held up for a run at a vital stage and had little luck when seventh at Shepparton last week. He gets into this race with a concession claim and should be finding the line strongly. VICTORTHEINFLICTOR (7) showed a glimpse of his best form with a fast finishing fourth at Shepparton last outing and rates as a value chance.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (likely leader), 3,4

SELECTIONS: APIECEOFLOU (9), ARRAPS (6), EASTBRO JESSE (11), VICTORTHEINFLICTOR (7)

RATINGS: 6,9/ 11/ 4,5,7/ 8,10

SUGGESTED BET: APIECEOFLOU (9) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: SUNSET STRIDE (9) produced a career best performance when she raced without cover throughout and proved to be too strong in a slick mile rate of 1.54.6 at Wagga last outing. She is building up a consistent record and appears to be a strong winning chance again. THEROCKGOD (3) has been promising a win for some time and finished fast out wide on the track when a game third behind Jaccka Conner at Shepparton last outing. WIND SOCK (2) produced a big finishing burst when third behind SUNSET STRIDE (9) at his latest performance and is worth an investment. NO NEIGH PHILTRA (6) has been placed in 11 of his 12 starts at Shepparton and should run his usual honest race. BUSLOAD OF FAITH (7) worked hard to find the lead when fourth at his Australian debut and is worth another chance.

EARLY SPEED: 7 (possible leader), 2,4

SELECTIONS: SUNSET STRIDE (9), THEROCKGOD (3), WIND SOCK (2), NO NEIGH PHILTRA (6)

RATINGS: 9/ 2,3/ 6/ 7/ 1,4

SUGGESTED BET: SUNSET STRIDE (9) to win

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: GOOD TOBE LOCKSLEY (6) will be ready to strike his peak form after having two starts back from a spell and he produced a very good performance when second behind Honest Harriette last outing, where he was forced to sustain a long run. He is a handy 3yo pacer and is worth following. ROYAL STARZZZ (3) is a fast beginner and should be prominent throughout. She used plenty of energy in the early stages and battled on fairly well late for fifth at her latest performance. BIG SLEDGE HAMMER (1) was resuming since July when he became very fierce and did well to finish in fourth at Ararat. He should be fitter from that performance and is drawn to give a bold showing. LETSGO BIG GIRL (4), IVANA BYTHESEASIDE (5) and THEVICEPRESIDENT (7) are all capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,2,4,5

SELECTIONS: GOOD TOBE LOCKSLEY (6), ROYAL STARZZZ (3), BIG SLEDGE HAMMER (1), LETSGO BIG GIRL (4)

RATINGS:6/ 1,3/ 4/ 5,7

SUGGESTED BET: GOOD TOBE LOCKSLEY (6) each way

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: OHHEMMJAY CRESCO (8) has been placed at his past five starts and raced out three horses wide for the last 700m when a game second behind Fremont Street last week. He is awkwardly drawn but deserves to break through for a win. TEX GOES BANG (7) settled in a rearward position and was doing his best work at the end when sixth last week. He is widely drawn but is usually competitive against this class so he is worth an investment. JERSEY SAM (9) raced without cover throughout and went down fighting when a brave second at Kilmore last outing. This is a race of similar standard so he is worth thought again. PINNACLE HOPE (1) has had a few chances recently but he is a fast beginner and is drawn to lead over the sprint distance so he cannot be dismissed.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 2,3

SELECTIONS: OHHEMMJAY CRESCO (8), TEX GOES BANG (7), JERSEY SAM (9), PINNACLE HOPE (1)

RATINGS: 8/ 1,7,9/ 4,5

SUGGESTED BET: OHHEMMJAY CRESCO (8) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: JANSU (5) is racing in peak form and should give another forward showing. She began quickly to find the lead and was run down in the latter stages when a close third behind The Sky Is The Limit last outing and she recorded mile rate of 1.59.1 when she scored at Melton three starts ago. ROBERT JOHN (6) gets into this race with a concession claim and finished third behind He’s Themightyspin in a stronger race at Ararat last outing so he must be considered as a winning chance. KYVALLEY PAINT (7) finished off solidly from a nice trail to win at Ararat last week. He also gets into this race with a concession claim and must be respected. AGAINST THE BRIDLE (3) and WHATS THE TEA (9) are both racing well enough to figure in the finish.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 2

SELECTIONS: JANSU (5), ROBERT JOHN (6), KYVALLEY PAINT (7), AGAINST THE BRIDLE (3)

RATINGS: 5/ 6,7/ 3,9/ 2

SUGGESTED BET: ROBERT JOHN (6) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: THE SILENT ASSASSIN (8) performed very well at the trials prior to his Australian debut. He galloped first up, finished fifth in a slick mile rate of 1.55.5 at his next attempt then broke through for a victory at Ararat, where he sprinted quickly from midfield. He is awkwardly drawn but should be hitting the line strongly again. SMILE WITH A GRIN (1) went to the line jogging with no clear run and was very unlucky when seventh (7m) behind Fremont Street last week. He is racing better than his form reads and is drawn to run a good race. ROYLE BLOOD (2) and CHARLIE CHOPS (9) both won against the easier maiden class at their latest attempt but they are capable of taking the next step forward. PARISIAN BANDIT (4) has been performing fairly well at the trials and has claims along with SCRITTORE (7).

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 6,7

SELECTIONS: THE SILENT ASSASSIN (8), SMILE WITH A GRIN (1), CHARLIE CHOPS (9), ROYLE BLOOD (2)

RATINGS: 8/ 1/ 2,7,9/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: THE SILENT ASSASSIN (8) each way

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: THE CHOOK (6) has been freshened since her latest seventh at Bendigo on September 11 but she performed well at the Bendigo trials last week and would take beating if she produced her best form. She defeated a handy field at a Bendigo victory four starts ago, which is a good form pointer to this event. LIZZIES SON (7) was driven aggressively from the second line to move up without cover and battled on gamely for a close second behind Bennie And The Jets at Shepparton last week. This race is no harder and he should give another bold showing. AT THE DISTANCE (4) has won four races for the season and is a strong type that should be competitive against this line up. He picked up ground from a rearward position when sixth (9m) behind Astro last week. KYVALLEY PICASSO (2) is a possible improver from his good draw.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely early leader), 5,7

SELECTIONS: THE CHOOK (6), LIZZIES SON (7), AT THE DISTANCE (4), KYVALLEY PICASSO (2)

RATINGS: 6,7/ 4/ 2/ 5/ 1,3

SUGGESTED BET: THE CHOOK (6) to win
