Mildura, Friday 27 September

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: OFF ME ROCKA (2) is resuming since August 2023 and is making his debut for trainer Malcolm Retallick. He will be fitter after a distant third behind Loseashoe at a recent Mildura trial performance and strikes a winnable assignment first up. SKADI (3) is a maiden from 21 starts but her past few efforts have been in stronger fields. She finished off reasonably well for fourth behind Baltic Halo at Ballarat last outing and is worth an investment. HEART OF OAKLANDS (7) finished off fairly well for third behind Perfect Playgirl last week and is worth thought again. DARK SANDS (5) and TWO IN THE BIN (6) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 2,4

SELECTIONS: OFF ME ROCKA (2), SKADI (3), HEART OF OAKLANDS (7), DARK SANDS (5)

RATINGS: 2,3/ 7/ 5,6/ 1,4,8

SUGGESTED BET: OFF ME ROCKA (2) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: ITZOK TO ROCK (7) should be ready to strike winning form after having two starts back from a break and she ran a much sharper race when third behind Robert Crocka last week. She is awkwardly drawn but should be finishing off strongly. WOODY NIGHTSHADE (8) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and was runner up behind Island Caesar (won again since) four starts ago. He picked up some ground late when sixth behind Chedalayo at Mildura last week. COTTON CANDY MAN (9) has won two out of his past five starts and sustained a long run at his victory on September 13. He missed out last week but is worth another chance. RIVERGUM COUNTESS (10) was a winner against similar grade four starts ago and is not without a chance under these conditions.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 2

SELECTIONS: ITZOK TO ROCK (7), WOODY NIGHTSHADE (8), COTTON CANDY MAN (9), RIVERGUM COUNTESS (10)

RATINGS: 7/ 8,9/ 10/ 2/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: ITZOK TO ROCK (7) each way

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: BEARTASTIC WRITER (10) is a strong pacer that appears to be very well graded in this event. He was placed three times in succession before a close up fifth, where he worked hard in the early stages. He is better suited to racing close to the speed so being drawn on the second line is a disadvantage but he is the class runner of the field. ROCKING WROXTON (6) was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off quickly for an eye-catching third last week. He also has a tough draw to contend with but he must be respected. MACH HU (3) is a fast beginner and is likely to find the lead shortly after the start. He led out then took cover when second last week so he is worth thought again. PUNTO CALIENTE (1), CHEERS POVERTY (2) and THE WAITING (11) are all worth thought in multiple combinations.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 2,6

SELECTIONS: BEARTASTIC WRITER (10), ROCKING WROXTON (6), MACH HU (3), CHEERS POVERTY (2)

RATINGS: 10/ 3,6/ 2/ 1,11/ 8

SUGGESTED BET: BEARTASTIC WRITER (10) to win

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: SHIRLEY NOT (2) is a nicely bred South Australian filly that has performed well at the trials leading up to her debut with a win and two placed efforts to her credit. Her dam Saved A Corka has produced 9 winners including Aspiring Artist (1.52.7) so a bold showing is expected first up. DANNY RAY (7) has been placed in all of his five starts to date and looms as the horse to beat. He did a lot wrong in his effort last week but he was still able to battle on strongly and finish in second. NANNA HELEN (5) is a former New South Wales trained pacer, which joins trainer Aaron Coad. He was runner up in fast time at Penrith three starts ago so he must be kept safe. DESTINY KEPT (1), MANINKY MOONSHINE (3) and UBETONRED (8) are all capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3,4,5

SELECTIONS: SHIRLEY NOT (2), DANNY RAY (7), NANNA HELEN (5), MANINKY MOONSHINE (3)

RATINGS: 2,7/ 5/ 1,3,8

SUGGESTED BET: SHIRLEY NOT (2) to win

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: SHALLOW POCKETS (3) struck trouble on the home turn and failed to finish at Mildura last week. He moves to the front line now and was placed at his two starts prior so he is worth an investment. OH SWEET CREATURE (11) raced without cover and ran a brave second behind Chogi at Mildura three starts ago. He made ground from a rearward position when fourth at Gawler last outing and he should be competitive against this class. HESASTAR (4) will appreciate a slight drop back in class for this assignment and did well when second behind Ronzel Micky three starts ago so he has winning claims. WHOS WATCHING LILY (7) is returning from New South Wales and is capable of improving on her numerical form.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 1,2

SELECTIONS: SHALLOW POCKETS (3), OH SWEET CREATURE (11), HESASTAR (4), WHOS WATCHING LILY (7)

RATINGS: 3,11/ 4/ 7/ 1/ 6,10

SUGGESTED BET: SHALLOW POCKETS (3) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT (3) continues to race in consistent form and is worth an investment. She was left stranded without cover and battled on well for fourth last outing. KUHIO CREST (1) settled in a rearward position and finished off fast when third behind Shireen at Mildura prior to an unlucky third at Gawler. He is much better drawn for this assignment and is close to a win. DAYLIGHT (8) began brilliantly to lead from the outside of the front line and battled on gamely for third last week. He will be relying on KUHIO CREST (1) holding a forward position at the start but is a winning chance if he gains the right luck in running. SUNSHINE WARRIOR (2) was heavily supported and got the prize at Mildura last week. He is worth thought again along with ALLSOPP (9), which has been performing nicely at the trials.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 2,3,5

SELECTIONS: SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT (3), KUHIO CREST (1), DAYLIGHT (8), SUNSHINE WARRIOR (2)

RATINGS: 1,3/ 2,8/ 9/ 4,11

SUGGESTED BET: SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT (3) each way

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: TWISTED BLISS (7) possesses a powerful finishing burst and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. She used some energy to hold a forward position at the start and trailed the leader when a close up fourth at Geelong last outing. JAXON BEACH (8) was resuming since June when he worked hard early and failed to run on at the finish when sixth behind Rio Rock. He should strip fitter for this assignment and his form last campaign was very strong so he warrants respect. WATCH THE ATTITUDE (6) began quickly and did some work early before ending up being behind the leader when a big winner last week. This race is of similar standard so he is worth thought again. AINTSOBAD (2) is a durable pacer from South Australia and should go well from his good draw.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 4,5,6

SELECTIONS: TWISTED BLISS (7), JAXON BEACH (8), WATCH THE ATTITUDE (6), AINTSOBAD (2)

RATINGS: 7,8/ 6/ 2,4,5

SUGGESTED BET: TWISTED BLISS (7) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: FENG SHUI STAR (8) faces a steep rise in class but he has been brilliant in four runs for trainer Naomi Kerr and is capable of winning again. HEART OF COOPER (11) drops back in class for this assignment and should be hitting the line strongly if he gains the right luck from his poor draw. AMYS BABY ANGEL (5) is a fast beginner and continues to build on her consistent record at Mildura. She was able to score after racing on the outside of the leader throughout at Mildura on August 16. MARTHA LAVINIA (2) had no luck whatsoever at Mildura last week and will appreciate her best draw for some time so she is capable of improving on her numerical form.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 2,5

SELECTIONS: FENG SHUI STAR (8), HEART OF COOPER (11), AMYS BABY ANGEL (5), MARTHA LAVINIA (2)

RATINGS: 8/ 5,11/ 2/ 3,7,10

SUGGESTED BET: HEART OF COOPER (11) each way

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: POWERSOFPERSUASION (7) performed bravely throughout the Super Series and will appreciate a massive drop back in class for this assignment. He boasts a very consistent record at Mildura and should prove hard to beat. KIALLA KID (5) is making his Mildura debut for trainer Boris Devcic and strikes a suitable assignment. He was a winner at Wagga in August and has been racing against strong opposition at Shepparton recently. BEE JAYS STAR (4) has won eight races at Mildura and should be prominent throughout from her good draw. She overcame a tough run to win at Mildura on July 19. VICTORY GEORGE (10) bounced back into winning form when he sustained a long run to score last week. He strikes a field of similar standard with the aid of a concession claim so he is worth thought again. ROYAL WATCH (2) is stepping up in grade but has won three of his past four starts in South Australia so he cannot be left out of calculations.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3,4,5,6

SELECTIONS: POWERSOFPERSUASION (7), KIALLA KID (5), BEEJAYS STAR (4), VICTORY GEORGE (10)

RATINGS: 5,7/ 4,10/ 2/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: POWERSOFPERSUASION (7) each way

Race 10:

OVERVIEW: SOAR (10) will appreciate a significant drop back in class for this assignment and is capable of sprinting quickly with the right trail forward so he is worth an investment. OUR BALOU (4) hasn’t won a race since September 2022 but he is making his Mildura debut for new trainer Aaron Coad and strikes a suitable race so he cannot be discarded. ANOTHER SPARKY (5) and ROBERT CROCKA (6) both recorded easy victories at Mildura last week and are worth thought again. RAINBOW RAIN (7) and AUCKLAND LASS (11) are both racing well enough to figure in the finish.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 2,6

SELECTIONS: SOAR (10), OUR BALOU (4), ANOTHER SPARKY (5), ROBERT CROCKA (6)

RATINGS: 10/ 4,5,6/ 7,11

SUGGESTED BET: SOAR (10) each way
