Melton, Saturday 27 July

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: ISTHISJUSTFANTASY (7) is a very fast mare and is capable of overcoming the wide draw. She has won nine of her fifteen starts and had little luck in the Metropolitan Pace Final last outing. FINAL COLLECT (10) began fast but worked hard on the outside of the leader when fifth behind Operative Line at Melton last week. He will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and he looms as one of the leading chances. GHOST OF TIME (3) is a fast beginner and was able to lead throughout at Shepparton on June 20. He hasn’t been able to find the front at his past three attempts but he has performed consistently so he is worth an investment. THE BEACH FANTASY (2), CLYMENUS (8) and RADIUS (9) are all racing well enough to be considered in an open race to commence the program.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 2,5,6

SELECTIONS: ISTHISJUSTFANTASY (7), FINAL COLLECT (10), GHOST OF TIME (3), THE BEACH FANTASY (2)

RATINGS: 7,10/ 3/ 2,8,9/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: ISTHISJUSTFANTASY (7) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: CLEAR LEFT (10) was left stranded without cover and produced a very strong performance when second (1m) behind My Uncle Stan last week. He was finishing off fast in his efforts prior and he appears to be very hard to beat against this line up. LAYDEN (9) is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and wasn’t beaten by far when third last week. He was placed in a slick mile rate of 1.54.3 prior and will take holding out in the run to the finish. WRITTEN IN SILK (1) has won five races in succession since returning from Tasmania and has the early speed to find the lead. This is her toughest test but she is racing in career best form. COOL NIGHT (5) pushed forward to find the lead and raced fiercely but held on to score in a slick mile rate of 1.54.2 last week. This is a race of similar standard and he is worth thought again. TIGER BAND WAGON (12) had no luck last outing and is a winning chance if he can gain the right trail forward.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 2,3,5

SELECTIONS: CLEAR LEFT (10), LAYDEN (9), WRITTEN IN SILK (1), COOL NIGHT (5)

RATINGS: 10/ 1,9/ 5/ 12/ 3,13

SUGGESTED BET: CLEAR LEFT (10) to win

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: AVANT GUARD (3) restrained at the start from a wide draw and ran home strongly from a long way back when second behind Fouroutoffive last week. He is building up a consistent record and is better drawn for this assignment so he should prove very hard to beat. KYVALLEYHONEYBUNNY (1) is a fast beginner and races best when she is able to lead. She should be getting fitter after having several runs back from a spell and will take catching from the pole position. KYVALLEY PIERRO (8) has the perfect trailing draw behind the likely leader and is capable of improving on his numerical form. He finished off well for fourth behind El Resamo two starts ago then endured a tough run last week. JAZSPUR (10) raced roughly at the start and worked hard early so she had excuses last week. Her overall form is sound so she is worth another chance.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 3,4,6

SELECTIONS: AVANT GUARD (3), KYVALLEYHONEYBUNNY (1), KYVALLEY PIERRO (8), JAZSPUR (10)

RATINGS: 1,3/ 8,10/ 6,9,11

SUGGESTED BET: AVANT GUARD (3) to win

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: EBONYS AVENGER (6) has been competing against the open class pacers so she appears to be very well placed against this line up. She held her own over the concluding stages when fourth behind Harry Stamper at Melton last week. EL RESAMO (4) progressed forward to race without cover and battled on strongly for third behind Hatchback at Melton last outing. He is a tough trotter and is racing in outstanding form so he looms as one of the leading chances. SEQUENCE (5) is searching for four straight victories and is a good chance of completing the task. She progressed forward to find the lead and recorded a slick mile rate of 1.56.4 at Melton last time out. ALDEBARAN ACRUX (1) had little luck last week and was able to lead throughout at her previous attempt. She is perfectly drawn and should be prominent throughout.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 4,5,6,7

SELECTIONS: EBONYS AVENGER (6), EL RESAMO (4), SEQUENCE (5), ALDEBARAN ACRUX (1)

RATINGS: 6/ 4,5/ 1,2/ 8

SUGGESTED BET: EBONYS AVENGER (6) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: SOME AMERICAN (6) set up a genuine tempo and was run down at the end when third behind Bay of Biscay in a sizzling mile rate of 1.51.4 at Melton last outing. He won at her first two attempts since resuming from a second in the Breeders Crown and looms as a winning chance again. MIKI TO SUCCESS (5) was beaten at his first run back from a break then was successful at his next four attempts. He trailed the leader and used the sprint lane when he dashed through to defeat Clear Left at Melton last outing so he is worth thought again. HES FROM HEAVEN (4) led throughout and recorded a sensational last half of 54.2 seconds when he scored easily last week. He is a very smart pacer and he looms as one of the leading chances again. WILD BULL (3) has performed very well since coming from New Zealand and led throughout at Wagga last outing. This race is harder but he is worth thought again.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely early leader), 4,6,7

SELECTIONS: SOME AMERICAN (6), MIKI TO SUCCESS (5), HES FROM HEAVEN (4), WILD BULL (3)

RATINGS: 6/ 4,5/ 3/ 7/ 1,2

SUGGESTED BET: Boxed Trifecta 4,5,6 (Cost $6)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: ALDEBARAN VERA (4) is a strong mare and appears to be well placed off the front line. She left a trailing position to race without cover when a game third behind One Over All prior to a strong second behind Tweedledee. SACRED MOUNTAIN (8) is a classy former New Zealand mare, which boasts a very strong standing start record and has been competitive from very large handicaps across the Tasman. She led out then took cover when second behind Harry Stamper at open class level on her Australian debut. VIRGINIA CLOWERS (7) has won five of her six starts for the season and worked forward to find the lead when she won the Matriarch Trot at her latest attempt. She also boasts a good standing start record and looms as one of the leading chances again. ALDEBARAN MILEY (3) battled on bravely for second at Melton last week and has claims along with WISH UPONA DREAM (1) and BERRIESANDCHERRIES (6).

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely early leader), 2,4

SELECTIONS: ALDEBARAN VERA (4), SACRED MOUNTAIN (8), VIRGINIA CLOWERS (7), ALDEBARAN MILEY (3)

RATINGS: 4,8/ 7/ 3/ 1,6

SUGGESTED BET: ALDEBARAN VERA (4) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: MAJOR DELIGHT (6) worked forward to find the lead and recorded a super mile of 1.50.9 at Menangle last week. She boasts the outstanding record of 19 wins from 24 starts and will prove very hard to beat again. RAKERO REBEL (5) continues to race in outstanding form and will go well again. She finished off quickly to finish a close second behind Perfect Class last week and she is very versatile. SOHO HISTORIA (4) finished a game second in a mile rate of 1.51.0 last outing and she has the early speed to obtain a prominent position so she must be respected. FIAMMA (1) led throughout to win at Menangle last week and is drawn to receive every chance so she warrants consideration.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 1,6

SELECTIONS: MAJOR DELIGHT (6), RAKERO REBEL (5), SOHO HISTORIA (4), FIAMMA (1)

RATINGS: 5,6/ 4/ 1/ 2,3

SUGGESTED BET: MAJOR DELIGHT (6) to win

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: PETRACCA (3) was resuming since a win in the Victoria Derby when he performed below expectations and finished fourth ($1-15 fav) behind Operative Line last week. He should have benefited from that run and he is a very classy performer that has won eleven of his fifteen starts so he must be given another chance. YAMBUKIAN (6) has been racing against the open class pacers and will find this assignment to be a little easier. He finished second in the Italian Cup on June 15, which is a very good form line for this assignment. GAWN (2) is stepping up in class but he has won four of his past five starts and dominated his rivals last outing so he must be considered as one of the leading chances. ARGGGHHH (1) is resuming since February but he chased hard when second behind Oliver Dan at a recent Melton trial performance and he is likely to end up being behind the leader so he cannot be left out of calculations.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 1,3,6

SELECTIONS: PETRACCA (3), YAMBUKIAN (6), GAWN (2), ARGGGHHH (1)

RATINGS: 3/ 6/ 1,2/ 4/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: PETRACCA (3) to win
