Raging Bull, sire of Lot 32
There are some impressive youngsters offered by single vendors in the 2025 APG Melbourne Yearling Sale on February 2.
Here is part two of a wrap of the quality yearlings that will go under the hammer.
Lot 32
This filly is by former smart NZ youngster Raging Bull out of Need You Now, who traces directly back to champion Canadian filly Warrawee Flare (1.50.6, $609K).
Warrawee Flare (this filly’s third dam) won 40 races in an epic race career and has left five winners, including NSW Breed Challenge heat winner Flare Up (1.55.1, $81K).
She is a half sister to Sunshine Beach (1.47.8, $977K), who won the Battle Of Brandywine and was placed in the Meadowlands Pace, and outstanding filly Western Moonlight (1.52.6, $366K), who won the Sweetheart Pace.
Need You Now is a half sister to two good race fillies, NSW Pink Diamond Stakes winner Lovin Miss Dixie (1.54.3, $65K) and Sii Sempre Tilly (1.55.3, $58K).
Raging Bull’s first Australian crop will be two-year-olds in 2025. He is already the sire of Raith Memorial (G3) winning filly Our Bare Knuckle (1.51.5, $100K) in Australia and WA Pacing Cup winner Wildwest (1.52.8. $619K).
Lot 34
This filly is by former star 3YO Vincent from two-time winning daughter of Betting Line, Our Lola Mae (1.55.4, $10K), who is a half sister to outstanding open class mare Millie Perez (1.52.7, $343K).
Milly Perez won the 4YO Vicbred mares final, the Group 2 Mildura Cup, Jodies Babe (G3) and Charlton Cup (G3) in 2017. She was runner-up in the Ararat Cup (G 3) and fifth in the Group 1 Queen of the Pacific.
In all, she notched up 19 wins, 15 seconds and 11 thirds from 74 starts in an ultra-consistent career.
Our Lola Mae is also a half sister to Group 1 Redcliffe Gold Cup winner Sebs Choice (1.53.5, $212K) and the dam of NSW Derby winner Patsbeachstorm (1.53.4, $183K).
Vincent (1.50.2, $598K), won 16 of his 19 starts. Seven of those wins were in Australia and included the 3YO colts Breeders Crown final and the NSW Derby.
He was only beaten once in Australia, when he struck trouble in the Victoria Derby.
Seven of his top 11 Australian earners are fillies.
Lot 36
This colt by Art Major from 2YO winner Parfait Amour (Mach Three) has a potent cross that has produced 79 individual winners in Australia.
Some of the best horses with the Art Major-Mach Three mare bloodline are Machs Love ($506K), Mirragon ($420K), Charm Thee ($326K), Vasari ($303K) and Alta Meteor ($233K).
He is also from a highly successful maternal family.
His dam is a half sister to champion filly Eye Keep Smiling (1.49.9, $400K), winner of the NSW Breeders Crown final and the Golden Girl, where she beat Aardies Express, Ladies In Red and My Moonlite Dream.
She was fifth in the 2024 The Eureka final.
His grandam, Oh Eye See, won $100,000 and is a half sister to the dam of brilliant 2YO filly Eye Believe (1.56.2, $235K).
Throw in outstanding geldings Two Eye See (1.52.4. $306K) and Rockin Marty (1.50.8, $390K) and see how this colt will attract a lot of attention from buyers.
Lot 41
This gelding by boom first season sire Poster Boy is the first foal of handy race mare Roquefort Cheese (1.55.2, $42K), a daughter of Betterthancheddar.
Poster Boy has set the breeding scene alight with 22 2YO winners from his first crop.
This colt has the same cross as exciting colt Cigano (1.55.7, $43K), who won two of his four starts. He finished fourth in the $250,000 Nutrien colts final and fifth in the $500,000 The Protostar at Albion Park at his other two starts.
Roquefort Cheese won three races as a 3YO and is a half sister to quality filly Keyang Secret (1.53.2, $100K).
She is from the family of open class campaigner Exciteusinthecity (1.52.8, $363K), winner of multiple Group and Listed classics.
Lot 49
This colt is by Christian Cullen stallion Raging Bull out of handy race mare Somedreamsomewhere, who won 12 races and $74,000 in stakes.
She is a half sister to quality pacers For Real Life (1.51.7, $360K) and Tightrope (1.53.6, $204K).
Somedreamsomewhere has produced winners with her first two foals, filly Nothingbutwaves (1.58.1, $48K) and recent two-year-old Melton winner Rolinginthedeep (1.57.9).
The colt is from Raging Bull’s first Australian crop of 39 foals.
Raging Bull is the sire of WA Pacing Cup winner Wildwest and has left 70 winners in NZ.
He is by champion sire Christian Cullen from American-bred Artsplace mare San Sophia, who has produced 10 winners of 84 races.
He had five wins and five seconds from just 10 starts, earning $115,000 in stakes.
Lot 57
This colt by Art Major from Mach Three mare The Waratah is a full brother to 2yo Vicbred Platinum winner Mirragon (1.49.4, $420K).
Mirragon has won 34 races, four as a 2YO and 17 in America.
His dam was a handy race mare and has produced five winners from her first five foals, including regional championship winner The Cid (1.54, $100K).
The Waratah is a half sister to 2YO and 3YO Aust filly of the year Lady Waratah (1.59.5, $564K), who is the dam of outstanding mare Steno (1.51.2, $483K) and Some Waratah (1.50.3, $240K) and grandam of 2YO Vicbred colts final winner Stormryder (1.53.1, $217K).
Another half brother, Master Waratah (1.58.6, $158K) won the Edgar Tatlow and a heat of the Bathurst Gold Crown as a 2YO.
Art Major is one of the greatest sires to stand in Australia. His progeny has earnt $100 million in stakes in this country.
This season, he is second on the overall sires list with progeny earnings of more than $10 million. He is fourth on the 2YO money list and third on the 3YO table.
Lot 63
A colt by Downbytheseaside from handy race mare Art In Paris (1.56.2, $53K), who is a half sister to the dam of superstar pacer Lochinvar Art (1.48.6, $1.6M).
Lochinvar Art was almost unbeatable during the 2020 season, winning the Chariots Of Fire and the Victoria Cup. He then took out the AG Hunter Cup in early 2021.
He has gone on to an impressive career in America and has notched 69 wins, all up.
Art In Paris and Lochinvar Art are both by Modern Art.
Art In Paris won her 2YO debut at Penrith, then her first three starts as a 3YO at Newcastle, Canberra and Bankstown.
She took her lifetime mark of 1.56.2 at Newcastle in May 2014 when she reeled off her first quarter in 27.5sec. She won 11 races in all.
The colt’s third dam, Zora Paree, was a broodmare gem. She left seven winners, including Drunken Desire (1.51.8, $377K), Mind The Wire (1.51.9, $259K) and Bathurst Gold Crown heat winner Zaguar (1.56.9, $121K).
