Four-year-old mare Talk Is Cheap will be chasing a winning hat-trick when she lines up in the Tasracing Dynamo Pace (1120m) in Hobart on Friday night.

The Michael Laugher-trained mare has had three starts in Tasmania since arriving from Victoria, including a 10m win in Launceston on 3 November before scoring in 1:57.0s over the mile in Hobart on 10 November, leading on both occasions.

“She has done a good job and is going well.

“She had been working well before her first race I gave her, but she got pulling too hard behind the leader and knocked up because of that. So then we thought we won’t be handing up as she won’t get pulling then,” Laugher said.

“She did a good job last start because she worked early and finished off well, so we are happy with her.

Laugher is unsure what to expect on Friday over the 1120m.

“It will be a learning experience. We will know more after how she will go over one lap. She seems to have plenty of speed, and all that would suit her alright. But we don’t know, we can only hope,” the trainer said.

Laugher also has Royal Appointment engaged at the meeting, who is set to line up in the Tasmanian Horse Transport Dynamo Pace (1120m).

The four-year-old gelding is the most winningest horse in Tasmania this season, with nine wins to his credit.

“He is overdue. He is working really, really well and does show high speed at home, so hopefully, he shows that.

“He is no doubt the quickest one I have had at home, but you have got to do it at the races don’t you,” Laugher said.

Both horses are sired by Guaranteed and will be driven by Gareth Rattray.

Laugher is enjoying one of his best seasons and is only two wins from equalling his season best of 36 wins that he set last year after the win of Feel The Reign won in Kilmore on Thursday night.

His son Jack runs a Victorian satellite stable, with the trainer acknowledging his efforts.

“We have brought a few new one’s and that’s something we haven’t done before. We were always stuck with the same ones. Jack and Ellen (Tormey) seem to find suitable ones to come and race down here which is also a good help,” said the trainer.

Race 1 will commence at 17:43 and will be shown on Sky Racing 1, with the remaining races on Sky Racing 2. The meeting will be hosted on Tasracing Live by Adrian Collins.
