Keayang Fitzy will be out to continue his excellent record since arriving in Tasmania when he lines up in the Fehlbergs Produce Sprintlane Pace (1609m) in Hobart on Sunday night.

The lightly raced five-year-old gelded son of Sportswriter was purchased from Victoria by the Solotrek Syndicate earlier this year, and since arriving in Tasmania under the care of trainer Wayne Yole, he has had nine starts for five wins and four minor placings, earning his connections $38,173 in that time.

His most recent win came at his most recent start in Launceston on 7 July, where he ran a slick mile rate of 1:56.7s for the 1680m trip.

“He has done a good job since he has been here. He is a nice horse that wears no gear, he is versatile, he is tough and has good gate speed,” said stable representative Ben Yole.

“The owner paid good money for him, but he has paid that back in leaps and bounds. The win restriction system suited him, so we have played that to a tee, and we will see what happens on Sunday.

Keayang Fitzy gets into Sunday’s five to six lifetime win-conditioned event with the one win claim allowed for concession drivers, with the Yole stable utilising the services of Olivia Weidenbach.

The 1609m event has been opened up after the scratching of progressive three-year-old Custom Harley.

“He is a nice horse, and with him coming out it has opened the race up. I expect him (Keayang Fitzy) to run in the top three,” said Yole.

With the pacer getting up in both the win and national rating systems, Yole was unsure of the pacer’s long-term future.

“We are unsure until we see him step up in grade and see how he measures up. If he does stay here, we might get him qualified from a stand and look at a race like the Golden Apple, or if not, we may place him interstate,” he said.

Sunday’s nine-race card commences at 17:12.
