The 2025 season has been one of continued success for Brighton trainer Tammy Langley.
The Brighton-based trainer has won the past two Leading Tasmanian Female Trainer Awards. So far this season, she has trained the quinella in the St Marys and New Norfolk Cups, along with landing the North Eastern Pacing Cup at Scottsdale and the recent Carrick Cup.
Despite the additional silverware this season, Langley still has room for another Cup, which could come this Saturday in Tasmania’s biggest race, the Group 1 Ladbrokes Tasmania Cup in Hobart.
Langley will saddle up two runners who are under $10 in early betting.
Mydadsaid won the first heat on 7 March, and Jeorge Street, who was runner-up to Magician in track record time in last week’s second heat.
Both horses will start off the front mark in the 2579m standing start event.
Stable representative Phillip Ford said both horses had come through their respective heat runs in great order.
“They are all good. They had their last gallop on Wednesday, and we are happy with them.
Former Queensland pacer Mydadsaid (pictured) was the first to qualify for the final when leading all the way to win. The heat effort was the pacers first start since mid-December.
The five-year-old gelded son of Sportswriter has now won 12 of his 31 starts and has a brilliant standing start record of five starts, four wins, and one placing.
“He had good form in Queensland and had been placed in the Redcliffe Cup (a Group 2 Standing start race). His connections sent him down for this race, which has been his main target for some time,” said Phillip.
The pacer has drawn position three (with the emergency drawn inside him) and will have the services of driver Mitch Ford, whose best result in a Tasmania Cup was a second placing aboard Rackemup Tigerpie in 2023.
Jorge Street won the Carrick Cup earlier this month and then ran a brave second to Magician after leading in track record time in the second heat on Sunday. He was defeated 3.7m but was some 17.9m clear of the rest.
“He just ran even quarters, which took the sting out of the others, and if he was to win on Saturday, I think he would have to be doing the same thing,” said Phillip, whose son Dylan will take the reins on the Captaintreacherous gelding.
Ford said it was an even race and that both of the horses drawing the front row were in their favour.
“It’s an even race. Most of the mainlanders have got 10m, so if they are running even quarters, it will be hard for them to get into it.
“We wouldn’t be swapping our two for any of the others with the way they are racing at the moment,” the stable representative said.
The Tasmania Cup is race seven on the 10-race card, which also includes the state’s premier mares race, the Cavalor Equicare George Johnson at Listed level, the L.H.T Cup Final, Sinbad Bay, Jane Ellen, and the Tasmanian Labor Eric Reece Memorial are all other highlights.
The first two races will be shown on Sky Racing 2, with the remaining races on Sky Racing 1.
Sky Racing Active and Tasracing Live will provide extended coverage, with the first race scheduled for 18:00.
