Shoobees Double broke through for her maiden win on Saturday night in good fashion when she took out the $30,0000 SKT Breaking and Pre-Training 2YO Westsired Feature for the fillies at Bunbury at just her 12th attempt.
Part-owned and trained by Simone Strachan in Bunbury, Strachan went into the race relatively confident with the filly and after a brief crack for the front, Dylan Egerton-Green was able to quickly restrain to get his position behind the leader, patiently biding hid time for the sprint lane at TABTouch Donaldson Park where the two sailed past the leader to win by 1.9m in 2:02:3.
Confident she could finish in the top three, Strachan did mention that she was nervous throughout the run, unsure how the filly would handle the sprint lane on the run to the line.
Results speak for themself and Shoobees Double had zero issues with the sprint lane and the big filly gave the Strachan family the thrill they had be hoping for.
Shoobees Double was purchased by Simone and Paul Strachan at the 2023 APG Yearling Sales for just $8000, but she wasn’t the horse they intended to buy when they made the trip up to the Magic Millions complex on Sunday, March 5 2023.
“I was looking at another couple by Shoobees Place, but then I saw her at the end and fell in love
“I didn’t even have her marked out, but I just walked past her and fell in love with her.
“I said to Paul, that’s the one I want now.
“I think her size drew my attention and then got her out, I knew she was big, but I didn’t realise she was that big until I brought her home and I thought, oh gosh.”
Although large in stature, she is a mature looking filly and after starting her racing career off strong, Shoobees Double placed second at Gloucester Park behind stablemate Highview Heidi at just her third start, but a disappointing second race prep saw Simone send her back to the paddock for six-to-seven weeks.
“We gave her a small break and brought her back, and nothing went wrong with her she just didn’t seem interested, blood tests and everything were good, so we just tipped her out, and then we brought her back and she’s come back to wanting to be there again.
“I lost her last prep, I don’t know what went wrong with her.”
With four horses currently in work, two-year-old Highview Heidi is due to come back into the stable at the end of this month after straining her tendon a few months ago.
Highview Heidi is a winner of three races from just seven starts, including an impressive win in the $35,000 Westral 2YO Fillies Gold Bracelet back in May for trainer Paul Strachan.
Simone heads to Pinjarra today with Arionrock starting from barrier three in the $30,000 Allwood Stud 3YO WA Country Derby at 4.47pm.
