Brighton trainer Tammy Langley achieved a career-best result when training half the winners on the eight-race card in Hobart on Sunday afternoon, as she increased her lead at the top of the state’s Female Trainers Premiership for the 2024 season.
Kicking off her winning day was seven-year-old Sportswriter gelding Spacewriter ($20) in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Pace (2090m).
Driven by Langley’s daughter Tiarna Ford, Spacewriter was quickly positioned behind the leader and travelled well before gaining clear racing room along the sprint lane to record a 4.8m win in a mile rate of 1:58.4s.
“That suited him. He got travelling in the run today, and the 30s quarters panned out well.
“It was a good drive early to drop behind the leader,” said stable representative Phillip Ford.
“Olivia Weidenbach had him going good, and then we ended up with him, and that’s the first race he has won for us today.
“We will just keep poking around and try and find the right sort of races,’ Phillip added.
Seven-year-old mare Modern Power ($15) claimed her third win of the season when recording a 5.3m win in the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Pace (2090m).
Claiming novice driver Jacob Duggan had the mare one-out and three-back and raced three-wide with cover from the 800m until being let-down at the 400m, where she sprinted home best to record a 5.3m win in 1:59.4s.
“She is always consistent, and I think she goes better with a bit of a sit. My nephew Nathan (Ford) does a lot of the work with her and deserves some of the credit there.
“She can get the mares and junior driver concessions, and she is qualified from a stand now, so there are plenty of options for her,” explained Phillip.
Tiarna Ford was the only driver to record multiple wins on the card after completing a driving double with the win of Our Arabella ($4.80) in the Cavalor Equicare Pace (2090m) when leading all the way to score by 12.1m in a mile rate of 2:01.1s.
“She put the writing on the wall with a good second in Launceston last week, and then a bit of gate speed on Sunday won her the race. She is about a 43 rater so she should be able to pick up one or two before she hits her mark here,” Phillip said about the win.
Rounding at the Langley’s stable winning day was Will He Pike ($4.80, pictured), the only 100% Tasmanian-owned winner on the program, when scoring in The Dynamo 15th November Pace (1609m).
Driven by Mitch Ford, the Heston Blue Chip gelding was first up for the Langley stable and was taken straight to the lead, where he scored by a head in 1:57.8s.
“The mile suited him, and he had a brilliant record over that trip. He has had a couple of starts and will be looking at a few country cups if he steps well enough,” said Phillip.
