Young Victorian harness racing trainer Blake Caruana intends to grow his Tasmanian presence in the coming months.
The 23-year-old prepared his first Tasmanian winner, Fun To Love, in Launceston last week and is hoping that the four-year-old can deliver him his second winner in the state when she lines up in the Cavalor Equicare Pace (2090m) in Hobart on Sunday night.
“I was over the moon with her last week,” Caruana said.
“I got her a couple of weeks ago. The connections knew I was going down there, and they told me to take her with me.
“She trialled about six months ago, and connections decided to take their time with her and give her time to mature, and it’s starting to be fruitful now. She looks a million bucks and almost looks like a stallion. She is one of the most beautiful horses I have ever seen,” the trainer explained.
The former Kiwi mare was first up in Australia, and first up from 408 days from the track when recording her maiden win, and the trainer is confident of another forward showing when she contests a no more than two lifetime win event on Sunday, where she has drawn barrier four, with Rohan Hillier once again booked for the drive.
“I think she can be right up there again.
Caruana is in the process of moving his construction business down to Tasmania before a permanent move to the state.
“I’m trying to sort everything out. I have a construction business in Melbourne that I’m going to bring down. I’m just in the process of moving everything. Eventually, it will be a permanent move.
“If it was the case of just the horses, I would have been there before now, but with my business, there’s a few loose ends to tidy up.
“If I can float around that five to ten mark, that will be enough for me. I have got a two-year-old and a couple of others that I plan to bring over,” the trainer said.
The first event is scheduled for 18:03, where another listing Victorian trainer, Craig Turnbull, prepares the race favourite, Okanui Beach, who will be continuing his preparation for Saturday week’s Group 3 Dandy Patch.
