It is now an astonishing 13 successive seasons that Menangle Park reinsman Robbie Morris has surpassed a century of winners in his home state.
Morris is in the prime of his career and his strong work ethic and eagerness to travel distances to take drives has certainly contributed to his scoresheet, one of the most impressive in the history of the sport.
Morris’ wife KerryAnn currently leads the New South Wales Trainers’ Premiership with 116 winners, with the formidable partnership being regulars at almost every metropolitan and provincial race meeting, Newcastle and Bathurst as well as Queensland and Victoria’s premier carnivals.
“It is quite satisfying that I have been able to be at the top of my game for such an extended period,” said Morris.
“It has been a goal for me to reach 100 winners each year and I am pleased to have been able to continue the momentum.
“I get to drive for Kez on a regular basis, Lucky Lodge presently being one of the biggest stables in the state.
“Kez and our team at home do a fantastic job, it is a huge effort to have the horses ready to go on race day, and it makes my job that much easier in the gig.
“Outside of that I also get regular drives from other prominent trainers which has contributed to my record.
“And I have a core group of owners that prefer me to drive their horses when I can, which is something I truly appreciate.”
Morris was at his brilliant best last Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Menangle, landing a treble for different trainers and he will be looking to build on that success heading into yet another busy weekend.
Morris has three drives at Newcastle on Friday night and will then back up at Menangle with nine drives on Saturday evening.
Grand campaigner Shades Of Heaven will step back in grade in race four at Newcastle with Morris believing the gelding is well suited from gate two.
The seven-year-old has won 17 races and over $144,000 in prizemoney but has been out of the winners’ circle against tough opposition since last scoring at Newcastle back in May.
“This race should suit him,” said Morris.
“I know his numerical form is not all that flash, but we have not been disappointed with him as things have not gone his way.”
