The Beaudster NZ may be a recent acquisition for the Cody Wallrodt team, but he is quickly becoming a favourite around the stable, with the four-year-old claiming the TABtouch North Eastern Districts Cup at Kellerberrin on Sunday, September 22.
Punters were confident that the son of Rock N Roll Heaven could get the job done, and so was the bunbury based trainer, with Wallrodt telling Emily Suvaljko not to make the same mistake he did the week prior.
“I thought he’s possibly lead and be hard to beat, but I told Emily I was confident he could sit in the breeze and win as long as she didn’t make the same mistake I did the start prior by going to slow.”
The Beaudster NZ was just too good for them on Sunday after finding themselves in the breeze over the 2130m trip, running down the leader in Ellucifer to win by a 1.2m margin in the $11,000 feature.
Only having his third start for the stable, one of Wallrodt’s owenrs Adam Jones had taken a liking to the gelding, and although at the time Wallrodt didn’t harbour the same feelings, it’s a purchase that has really grown on him.
“One of my owners, Adam Jones, was keen on him a few weeks before he came up for sale and then after he was up for sale for a few weeks, Bob Mellsop rang me and said he’d be a bit cheaper,
“So I told Adam and later (that day) he said to pick him up.
“I was a little reluctant to take him on as I was never really a fan but since he’s been in the stable, he’s quickly become a favourite and I believe he’ll make city grade in a short time.”
The Beaudster NZ will likely head to town in a fortnights time.
The Central Wheatbelt club promised it would be a big one on Sunday and they did not disappoint, with the 100-year celebration going off with a bang.
From memorabilia, to harness racing, and even pony trots on the day, there was something for everyone to enjoy and after race five on the card, numerous sporting clubs put their best foot forward in the four-person relay with $250 up for grabs.
Donald Harper, Trent Wheeler, Corey Peterson and Tom Bryant swapped out their boots for runners, and it’s a wonder how they missed out on selections for the recent 2024 Olympic Relay team with the four reinsman sprouting wings on the track.
Winning by spaces, the boys took home $250, opting to donate it towards next weeks Pinjarra Pony Trots meetings on September 30.
All clubs running in the relay were awarded $250 for participating, and it was quite a spectacle to watch on track for onlookers.
Four-year-old Ginnivan is a maiden no more, with the Maryann White owned and trained gelding doing enough right to get the job done in race one.
After causing a false start at their first attempt, he wasn’t on his best behaviour in round two, but that didn’t matter, and Ginnivan went on to win by 4.5m.
Race three went the way of Bella Ragazza for Ryan Bell and Kyle Symington, with the $2.60 favourite working forward to gain the lead, to win by a 2.8m margin over the 213m trip.
Eye Better has been a wonderful horse for Lang Inwood, and although she hasn’t won since June 25, she returned to good form on Sunday after pressing forward soon after release point, working three wide to eventually gain the lead.
Even after doing plenty of work to gain the front, Shannon Suvaljko was able to kick away to win by 8m on the line with favourite punters sure to be sighing in relief with the result.
Inwood prepared a double on the day, which in turn gave Emily Suvaljko a double in the cart when Shes A Mare claimed race six on the card with a narrow victory on the line.
The Ashcroft family have had a fairytale week in racing and Sunday was no different for the stable, with Heavenly Bliss giving them plenty to celebrate, driven by Kyle Harper.
Have truck, will travel, and that’s exactly what Adrian Shanks did, with Im Boss claiming the last on the card at Kellerberrin.
After making the drive all the way from Albany, the three-year-old rewarded the breeder, owner and trainer with the win in the 3YO event after leading all the way from barrier one for driver Trent Wheeler.
Pacing returns to Kellerberrin this coming Sunday, September 29.
