PLANS remain modest with Mighty Carson despite his maiden-breaking success in Gawler.

Making his debut as a three-year-old in 2020, Mighty Carson was unplaced at his first three outings before being sidelined for 40 months where he was transferred to the care of South Australian horsewoman Helen Moustos last June.

Racing consistently with five placings from his initial seven outings, Mighty Carson rewarded connections for their faith yesterday.

"I'm not sure why he didn't race for nearly three-and-a-half years," Moustos said. "Mark (Callick, owner) has a few he's bred but hasn't raced.

"As far as I am aware there are no underlying issues as he is sound as can be, fit and happy.

"He goes along quite well and has gone close a few times, so it was great to see him get that first win."

Driven by Mark Riseley, Mighty Carson led throughout from barrier two to complete a metre-and-a-half victory from Major West.

Celestial Nebulae was a metre away third in 1:59.5 over a mile.

"He's a big horse which covers the ground well," Moustos said. "Once he found the lead I felt this was his chance to break through.

"Mark rated him perfectly in front and really set up the win.

"I also had Plutus in the race and he had no luck, but did his best. Had things gone better his way, I think he would have finished closer.

"I've got nothing specific picked out for them and will just find the next race that suits them."
