Veteran reinswoman Gaita Pullicino allowed Let Her Roll do exactly that in the Listed $50,000 SA BOTRA Southern Stars Series final (1800m) at Globe Derby Park on Saturday.
Sent out the $1.40 favourite, Pullicino allowed Let It Roll to cruise to the front from gate two, and that basically was the last most of her rivals saw of the filly.
She was between 10 and 20 metres clear of the field for the rest of the race, eventually winning by 17 metres form Fantasea ($5) with Art Regal ($41), 7-1/2 metres away third.
Let Her Roll rated a smart 1:57.2, with an excellent 27.6 second final 400 metres.
The filly was bred and is part-owned in South Australia by Bruce Cameron but is trained in Victoria by Clayton Tonkin.
Let Her Roll is out of the two-time Group 1 winner Rocknroll Magic which Cameron also bred and part-owned and which was a winner of SA’s Southern Cross finals as a two and three-year-old filly.
Cameron was happy to be back on flat ground at Globe Derby Park as in March he achieved a lifetime ambition hiking to Mount Everest base camp in the Himalayan mountains.
“It was tough, but enjoyable,” Cameron said.
There was no desire to go on and try to reach the peak of the world’s highest mountain.
Let Herr Roll will return to Tonkin’s Victorian stables and be prepared for the feature two-year-old races later in the year.
Angle Vale trainer-driver Dean Girardi produced a double, and both winners were popular with punters.
Square gaiter Cyclone S Adams returned to the winner’s list with an all-the-way victory in the Cardigan Boko Swe @ Bellmoure Park Trotters Handicap (2645m).
Backed from $5.50 into $3.20, Cyclone S Adams was perfectly rated by Girardi with a last half of 58.1 seconds which made it just too tough for backmarker My Used To Be ($2.25 fav) which came off a 30-metre handicap.
The favourite loomed up on the home turn, but Cyclone S Adams was able to run a 28.9 second final 400 metres and win by two metres.
Girardi later drove the well backed Treacherous Rock ($5 into $3.10) which found the front from gate three in the Hygain Micrspeed Pace (1800m) and dashed home in a quick 28.1 seconds to win by 3-1/2 metres.
Kahina ($4.40 into $2.30 fav) loomed up turning for home but couldn’t match the winner.
Top reinsman Wayne Hill had a good night at the office coming away with a treble.
He was aboard the Aaron Bain-trained Lolita which scored impressively in the Angle Vale Hardware Fodder & Landscaping Pace (1800m).
Lolita ($3.10) made it five wins in a row when she came from second last to score a two-metre win from Jamaican Rock ($2.90 fav) with Aces Daughter ($9), seven metres away third.
The mare is outstanding form and stepping up with each challenge.
Hill’s second winner was Honeybun ($2.80 equal fav) which settled one-one before coming with a strong sprint to win The Bully Boutique Australia Pace (2230m).
Trained by Jill Neilson and Katie Wilson at Penfield, Honeybun scored by three metres from Justanextragrand ($7) with Classy Dancer ($2.80 equal fav), a half-metre away third.
The win was the first by the mare since November last year, but she had been racing in good form and the win was no surprise.
His treble came up on Ceeubetty which took out the Ladbrokes Odds Surge Pace (1800m) in the most exciting finish of the night.
Ceeubetty ($2.40 fav) led throughout from gate one and scored by a short half head from Bad Boy Carter ($12) with Ima Workinclassman ($7.50) a half head away third, then only a head away was Hereforagoodtime ($3.40) which finished fourth.
The four-year-old mare was fitter at her third run from as spell and part-owner-trainer Heather Stevens is certain to place her to advantage over the next few months.
Purchased from New Zealand, Ceeubetty is a definite improver.
Katie Wilson, who co-trained Honeybun with Jill Neilson, was in the sulky of You Really Got Me which is trained by Neilson’s son Chris.
You Really Got Me ($11) found the front early in the Dancinginthedark M USA @ Aldebaran Park Trotters Mobile (2230m) and trotted strongly to win easily by eight metres from Speedysebastian ($2.30 fav) with Hurricane Ed ($21) three metres away third.
Penfield trainer Ingrid Smith had a winner with Summerdays in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Pace (1800m).
Driven by her son Michael, Summerdays ($4.20) took an early trail behind Rocking With Charm ($4) before finishing strongly to win by 2-1/2 metres.
