Since the inception of the TAB Regional Championships in 2020, these features have continued to be a highlight on the sport’s calendar, producing fairytale stories across New South Wales.

Sydney-based drivers Josh Gallagher, Robert Morris, Ashleigh Delosa and Jack Callaghan will all be kept busy as each are contesting both the Hunter and Metropolitan finals in the coming days.

Gallagher has consistently been among the top five drivers in the state for the past few seasons and is looking forward to participating in the Championships with realistic winning chances.

“These Championships are a great way to showcase the sport throughout the regions and I have been lucky enough to be a part of a few of the series finals in the past, but I am still chasing a win in one of them,” said Gallagher.

The Menangle based reinsman will contest the Hunter Final at Newcastle on Friday night when he partners the Roy Roots-trained Beancounter.

The gelding qualified when he got home stoutly, coming from the tail of the field to finish second behind Craftmans Charlie a fortnight ago.

Gallagher will back up on Saturday with the Kevin Pizzuto-trained heat winner Turbo Tommy in the Metropolitan Final at Menangle.

A revelation since joining Pizzuto’s stable, Turbo Tommy was strong in scoring a fortnight ago and heads into the final as a serious winning chance.

“Both of my drives will need their fair share of luck, but they also deserve their spots,” said Gallagher.

“Beancounter’s effort in his heat was first class and I will probably drive him similarly while Turbo Tommy is doing a great job for Kev and will certainly be in the mix on Saturday.”
