FORMER Miracle Mile winner Catch A Wave is over his injury scare and will return to racing at Melton tomorrow (Saturday) week.

Trainer Andy Gath toyed with the idea of bringing his stable star back for tomorrow night’s $50,000 Melton Plate but just felt another week of work would top him off.

“He trialled well at Melton (Tuesday) and ran home in really quick time, but we just felt we’d be better waiting another week to race him,” he said.

Catch A Wave, who boasts 19 wins from just 33 starts and almost $1.3 million in earnings, will resume in the Captain Sandy Free-For-All over 2240m.

The gelding hasn’t raced since finishing second in the Geelong Rocket on February 23 when fears emerged moments after the race that he had sustained a serious leg injury.

It was a huge relief when an exhaustive veterinary inspection revealed the extreme lameness was only caused by a corn and abscess in a hoof.

The corn was removed, the abscess drained, and Catch A Wave was back working again soon after.

The setback ruined his Miracle Mile defence at Menangle last Saturday night.

“He seems good. We’ll get through the race next week and then look at what options we’ve got with him,” Gath said.
