Macray Lodge, established by former stamp auctioneer and 2005 Victorian Breeder of the Year Ian Kitchin, is a brand that is synonymous with on track success – the list of Group 1 winners, $100,000 earners and metropolitan performers knows no limits.

The dual VicBred champion Dee En Ay Macray, the Australian Pacing Gold winner Same Old Macray, Bomber Macray, Tee Cee Bee Macray, Vee Em Gee Macray, Kid Me Not, Together We Do and Nifty Jolt are names that roll off the tongue with ease when you start to think of star performers born and bred at the Undera property.

With a three-strong draft to be offered at the Australian Pacing Gold Sale at Oaklands Junction on Sunday, February 4 there’s a good chance that another star will emerge in a few years.

Spearheading the draft is a bay Rock N Roll Heaven filly (Lot 167) from a daughter of the 2005 Australian Broodmare of the Year Vicky Hanover, the dam of nine winners, two Group 1 winners, a Group 1 placegetter and progeny earnings of almost $900,000. They include Same Old Macray ($302,375), Dee En Ay Macray ($254,140) and Bomber Macray ($224,540).

“She’s a big, strong filly, a striking type and a typical Rock N Roll Heaven,” Rachel Torney, the wife of Macray Lodge manager Justin Torney said.

The second of the Macray Lodge consignment is Lot 169, a black colt by the defunct Aldebaran Eagle, sire of the Award winning filly Rockinwithattitude, from Macray Maori, a member of the prized Maori Miss tribe.

He’s the first foal of a half-sister to the Breeders Crown Consolation winner Gun Of A Son, now racing successfully in America.

“He’s a stunning black colt who took a little bit of time to get going, but he’s really blossomed in the last six to eight weeks,” Rachel said.

“He moves quite nicely and he’s got a fair bit of trotting action.”

Completing the draft is Lot 208, a half-sister by the great Lennytheshark to the exported Senor Macray (1:51.7), a winner of 26 races in Victoria, NSW and North America and $237,982.

The bay filly belongs to the same family of top pacers such as Winforus (WA Pearl), Hexus (Newcastle Mile), Stars Align (1:48), Talladega (APG 2YO Final) and the WA Pacing Cup winner Saab.
