WHEN you're heading interstate to visit family, why not throw a few horses on the float as well?
That's the philosophy Victorian horseman Boris Devcic has adopted this week.
Leaving his Mildura home to spend time with members of his Adelaide-based clan, Devcic decided to race a trio from his stable at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
"We're going to South Australia to catch up with some family before Christmas," Devcic said. "My wife said 'why not take some horses as well', so that's what we are doing.
"Now it's a bit of a working holiday...we'll have some good food, drinks, laughs and maybe also get a winner."
One of two entrants in the second event on the card, Guaranteed Secret is Devcic's "best chance" of success.
To be driven by local reinsman Wayne Hill, Guaranteed Secret is expected to be pushed forward from barrier four.
The mare's stablemate, Coco Beach, will come from gate six with Corey Johnson in the cart.
"It looks like a very good race for Guaranteed Secret," Devcic said. "She burns from the mobile and should find the lead from there.
"She is going to be hard to beat and is my best chance on the night."
Devcic will then be represented by Just Bornforu, which is also drawn to search for the lead.
With Hill to take the reins, Just Bornforu is a short-priced favourite from the pole.
"He's won three of his last four starts and is in terrific shape," Devcic said. "He has a draw we'll be looking to make the most of."
