Delightfull Tammy is just one win away from a near-perfect South Australian campaign for the Cormack family.
Sent across to Roseworthy trainer Toby Ryan, Delightfull Tammy’s ultimate goal was the $30,000 Sky Racing Three-Year-Old Fillies Southern Cross Final (2230m) at Globe Derby Park on Saturday, December 2.
On Saturday night, the filly demonstrated her dominance with a tough win in the Sky Racing Three-Year-Old Fillies Pace (2230m).
Sent out the $1.35 favourite and coming from the extreme outside of the front row, Delightfull Tammy was caught three wide for three-quarters of a lap before finding the spot outside the lead, then eventually working to the front.
Driver Lisa Ryan asked her to up the tempo down the back straight and kept running to win by five metres from Always Steamed Up ($5) with Laylas Princess ($16), 16-1/2 metres away third.
Since coming to the Ryan stable at the end of the stable, Delightfull Tammy has picked up the SAHRC Derby, Mermaid Stakes and SA Oaks and she will be at a long odds-on quote to pick up a fourth feature this Saturday.
She is owned in South Australia by Adam, Ben and Terry Cormack who have successful harness horses in Australia and New Zealand.
Delightfull Tammy was prepared in Victoria by Peter Manning, but under the required qualification for the Southern Cross, she had to be trained in SA for at least three months and it has proved to be a successful move.
The Alabar Two-Year-Old Pacing Colts & Geldings Southern Cross final (1800m) should be an exciting contest with the barrier draw crucial.
Heat one saw No Notthebuttons ($1.50 fav), trained by Emma Stewart, but bred and owned in South Australia, sit parked and win by 1-1/2 metres from Hezrockinroyalty ($3.60) with pacemaker Tembie ($17 into $5.50), two metres away third.
The winner rated an impressive 1:57.7 and was strong through the line.
Runner-up Hezrockinroyalty was super, coming from last with a dazzling burst of speed, and will be rated highly with a good draw in the final.
The ultra-consistent Bay Jim Major ($1.25 fav) made full use of gate one to lead throughout in the second heat.
Driven by Mark Norman for trainer Les Harding, Bay Jim Major rated 2:1.3 but only did what he had to in beating his rival Star Man ($4.40) by 4-1/2 metres with Waitpinga Reactor ($26), five metres away third.
The gelding has rated a brilliant 1:56.1 in winning at Globe Derby Park so he will be up for a high-pressure contest in the final.
Star Man is another which has proved hard to beat if he leads, so the draw will be important for him as well.
The Two-Year-Old and Three-Year-Old Trotters events on Saturday saw two impressive wins.
Bishop George, trained by Jill Neilson and Katie Wilson, made it two wins in a row winning the Download The TAB App Two-Year-Old Trotters Mobile (1800m).
Patricia Em ($4.60), trained by Matt Maguire and driven by Corey Johnson, trotted to the front and gave her rivals something to chase and looked the likely winner.
However, Bishop George ($3.20), driven by Katie Wilson, trailed the leader then rounded her up off the back to win running away by 2-1/2 metres.
Illawong Martini ($1.75 fav) was third throughout and was a further six metres away.
The winner is definitely an improving squaregaiter and should be hard to beat in the $15,000 Southern Cross next Saturday.
Wasleys trainer Claire Goble always has good trotters in her stable and All The Trix is the latest.
A red hot $1.65 favourite, and driven by Ken Rogers, All The Trix settled one-out, one-back in the AB Air Services Three-Year-Old Trotters Mobile (2230m) before trotting home powerfully to win by 6-1/2 metres from Skew Whiff ($4.20) which chased hard with Hayoak ($5), seven metres away third.
Early in his career, the gelding had a tendency to break but Goble has tinkered with his gear and now the three-year-old is trotting safely.
He looks hard to beat in the Southern Cross final this week.
