Manildra couple Owen and Ann Murray only go to the trots on special occasions.
Now they have $2.1million reasons to go to Menangle on September 2 for the TAB Eureka – the world’s richest harness race.
Owen and Ann entered in the Western Jewel racebook competition when they attended Parkes’ New Year’s Eve meeting last year.
They were then put into the draw to win a two per cent share of the prizemoney won by the horse entered in the Western Jewel slot, retained by owners Wayne and Julie Loader.
That draw took place at Bathurst last night following the TAB Regional Championships Western Final where Owen and Ann’s name was drawn out of the barrel.
“They were rapt to win and said they never win these sorts of things,” said Wayne.
“They are really looking forward to being a part of it and put Manildra on the map.
“Owen and Ann have never owned a horse and occasionally go to the trots in Parkes when there are special meetings on.
“It’s a great opportunity to give people a taste of owning a horse that have never done so before.”
The racebook competition was held at various key feature meetings across New South Wales’ western region.
Now the question is, what horse will fill the Western Jewel slot?
“We are still looking at our options at this stage,” said Wayne.
“We are also giving away another two percent share to a charity which we will announce soon.”
