Racing Queensland has advised that any licensed participant who arrives in the state from tomorrow will be required to undertake a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period before being permitted onto a Queensland racecourse.

With racing presently being conducted under stringent health measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, RQ has taken the additional step of enforcing a mandatory self-isolation period for any licensee – Queensland or otherwise – who is presently inter-state.

Effective from midnight, any licensee who arrives in Queensland, irrespective of their mode of transport, will be unable to attend race meetings, training centres or any other licenced facility for a period of at least 14 days.

With RQ introducing patron-free racing last week, only essential licensed personnel are presently permitted on-course which includes:

“The Palaszczuk Government has enacted strict border conditions to protect all Queenslanders,” RQ CEO Brendan Parnell said.

“In order to further limit travel movement within the Queensland racing industry, we are asking licensed participants to undertake a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period to provide further quarantine measures.”

RQ will continue to liaise with industry stakeholders and the Queensland Government as to whether the movement of horses and greyhounds will be permitted during this period.

Today’s announcement is expected to be the first in a multi-staged approach to limiting people movement within the Queensland racing industry with further announcements to be made in the near future.
