Emerging star Tsunami Lombo strolled to an easy victory in the DBC Tender Ridge Past Presidents Cup at Gloucester Park on Friday night to complete a highly successful evening for Oakford trainer Ross Olivieri and leading reinsman Chris Lewis.
Main Event
Tsunami Lombo

The five-year-old’s victory gave Olivieri and Lewis four winners in the first eight races on the ten-event program after they had been successful earlier with Ima Spicey Lombo, Gary Bromac and Jordangarry.
The powerful combination went close to landing six winners. Lewis drove 5/4 on favourite Bombora Lombo into second place behind Partywiththedevil in the first event and 5/4 favourite McGintysgoat into third place in the final event.
It was fitting that Tsunami Lombo won the feature event because his breeder and owner Mick Lombardo is a past president of the WA Trotting Association.
Tsunami Lombo began his career with three unplaced runs in WA as a two-year-old in November 2006 before he was sent to Victoria to race. He won nine times from 32 starts in Victoria before returning to WA a couple of months ago to be prepared by Olivieri.
The Jennas Beach Boy gelding is unbeaten at his three starts for Olivieri and looks set to become a force in feature events. Olivieri said that Tsunami Lombo is a slowly-maturing pacer and would be even better after a spell. Tsunami Lombo now has earned $88,440 from his 12 wins and 11 placings from only 38 starts.
In an incident-packed Cup, Bakerandthefatman began speedily and got more than a length in front of the polemarker Jimmy Kelly, but was unable to cross to the pegs. Then, as he was still challenging for the lead, Bakerandthefatman ran off towards the outside fence on the turn into the home straight for the first time.
The off-side hopple connecting strap had become loose and Kyle Harper was forced to retire the gelding from the race.
Lewis started a three-wide move with Tsunami Lombo, the 5/2 on favourite, 400m after the start and the big, powerful gelding forged past Jimmy Kelly and into the lead after a lap had been covered.
Then, with about 950m to travel, Jimmy Kelly, who was trailing the pacemaker, broke into a gallop and caused severe interference to several runners, including 3/1 second favourite Money Twitch.
Tsunami Lombo was not extended in covering the final 800m in 58.7sec. and he won by 4m from 25/1 chance Nowuseeme, who sustained a solid three-wide finishing burst. Village Steel (22/1) was a sound third.
Tsunami Lombo inherits much of his ability from his dam Tailamade Lombo, who earned $1,354,978 from her 49 wins and 25 placings from 110 starts.

Star reinsman Gary Hall jun. has mixed feelings about his decision to forgo the drive behind the talented New Zealand-bred pacer Rocket Reign when the six-year-old contests the $35,000 Winter Cup at Gloucester Park next Friday night.
Main Event
Gary Hall Jnr & connections of Rocket Reign

“I’ll be driving Im Themightyquinn in the Cup, but I’m sure he won’t have it all his own way against Rocket Reign,” Hall said.
“Rocket Reign is the second best horse in our stable, for sure. But I’ll have to jump off him for the Winter Cup. Quinny will have trouble getting round him, if he leads. He’s quick out of the gate and is pretty tough.”
Leading trainer Gary Hall sen. produced Rocket Reign in superb condition for his return to racing in the Easy For Me With DBC Pace on Friday night when the Pacific Rocket gelding gave a stylish performance to overcome a tardy start and win from stablemate Alzona and Has The Answers.
Im Themightyquinn, a brilliant first-up winner the previous week, and Rocket Reign will clash in the Winter Cup, a 2536m mobile event.
Hall jun. had some anxious moments before winning on Friday night. Rocket Reign, favourite at evens, galloped from the 20m mark and lost about 20m. He settled down in tenth position before Hall dashed him forward to move to sixth, three wide, after a lap. Rocket Reign then forged to the front 1400m from home and went on to sprint the final 800m in 57.3sec. to give his rivals little chance of catching him.
Alzona started from 30m and he was sent forward by Kim Prentice in the first lap before working hard without cover.
“I thought that we were gone when Rocket Reign galloped,” Hall said. “I couldn’t believe it because he had flown away in two recent stand trials. He’d got a bit keen in the warm-up and was probably a bit on edge.
“I got a bit close to the strand and when I went to straighten him up, he just lost it. Later, I was a bit worried with Alzona on our outside about 400m from home. Alzona was travelling better than Rocket Reign, but Rocket Reign found plenty and did a good job to win.”
This was Rocket Reign’s second win from 11 starts in WA after he had won 14 times from 57 starts in New Zealand. He now has earned $210,373 in prizemoney.
Has The Answers, backmarker off 60m, put in another excellent performance to come from last in the middle stages and from ninth at the bell to finish third. Total Defiance, who started from 40m, sustained a strong three-wide burst from the rear to move into third place 600m from home before wilting to seventh.

Gary Bromac, a noted frontrunner, revealed his wonderful versatility when he thundered home from last position 300m from home to get up and snatch a last-stride head victory over Barachias in the DBC Valley Spring Lamb Pace over 22130m at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Main Event
Gary Bromac

The victory, at his first run since being reclassified from an M2-class pacer to an M1 class after a losing sequence of ten, took his stake-earnings past the $100,000 mark and returned him to an M2 classification.
Gary Bromac (7/1) started from barrier five and Chris Lewis was content to allow him to drop back to last in the field of ten as Chica Bonita led and held off spirited challenges from Mattnamaras Band.
Lewis took Gary Bromac five wide on the home turn and the Holmes Hanover seven-year-old charged home to get up and score from Barachias (7/2), who had come from seventh at the bell to take the lead 100m from the post. Rank outsider Last Left ran on from eighth at the bell to be third, fractionally ahead of Our Slick Whitby, who had raced three wide throughout.
The New Zealand-bred Gary Bromac is trained by Ross Olivieri and is owned by Tim Egerton-Green, Michael Reynolds, Edwin Blechynden, Andrew Hathaway, Ken Reynolds, Kingsley Smith, Kevin Egerton-Green, Brett Gigney, Thelma Simpson and Scott Elson.
A winner of five races in New Zealand and four in Victoria, Gary Bromac has had 29 starts in WA for six wins and two placings. He now has earned $100,716.

Olivieri and Lewis also combined to win with Ima Spicey Lombo, Jordangarry and Tsunami Lombo on Friday night.
Jordangarry impressed at his first appearance for 38 days when Lewis guided him to an all-the-way victory over the fast-finishing pair Christopher Three and Smooth Shift in the 2503m DBC Talk About Taste Handicap.
Jordangarry (5/2) burst straight to the front and Lewis rated him perfectly before he sprinted the final 800m in 58.3sec. Franco Endure, the 5/4 favourite, was eighth after a lap before Shannon Suvaljko sent him forward, three wide, with 1200m to travel.
Franco Endure moved into second place 600m from home, but then began to wilt and dropped back to finish fifth. Christopher Three and Smooth Shift, co-backmarkers off 20m, finished powerfully from the rear to dead-heat for second, with Pandemic an extremely close fourth after working hard without cover.
Jordangarry, a five-year-old by American stallion The Wrath of Pan, managed only two wins from 40 Victorian starts. He now has had seven starts in WA for Olivieri for five wins and two seconds.
Ima Spicey Lombo, a four-year-old Pacific Fella mare, boosted her earnings to $224,481 when she gave a tough staying performance to win the Dardanup Butchering Company Pace over 2130m.
Favourite at 6/4 on, Ima Spicey Lombo was trapped four wide early before getting to the breeze outside the leader Cuvee Riche after a lap. Lewis sent the mare to the front at the 500m mark and she revealed splendid fighting qualities to withstand a spirited late challenge from the consistent Our Gent.
Ima Spicey Lombo scorched over the final 800m in 57sec. and rated 1.57.2.

Gary Hall jun. predicted a bright future for Partywiththedevil after driving the Victorian-bred five-year-old to an impressive victory at his WA debut in the Dr Ern Manea Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Main Event
Gary Hall Jnr & connections of Partywiththedevil

“He was driven as a sit and kick horse in Victoria, but he seems to have plenty of bottom to him,” Hall said.
“I like him a lot. I was pretty impressed with him and he should work his way through the classes.”
Partywiththedevil, the 5/2 second favourite, proved too good for the 5/4 on favourite Bombora Lombo, winning by a length and a half at a 1.58.3 rate over the 2130m journey.
Partywiththedevil began speedily from the second line and Hall got him, into the breeze after a lap. Chris Lewis restrained Bombora Lombo from barrier eight to last before he followed the three-wide run of Mighty Shard with 1100m to travel.
Partywiththedevil, a winner of 11 minor country-class races from 73 Victorian starts, forged to the front 500m from home and scored in fine style. Surfer Dude finished solidly from 11th at the bell to be third.
Partywiththedevil, owned by Bevan Dearman, is the first foal out of unraced Queensland mare Goldwood Rebel.

The patience of Pinjarra breeder-owner Karen Young was rewarded at Gloucester Park on Friday night when her husband Ron drove eight-year-old Pedal To The Metal to victory in the Jim Leahy Pace over 2536m.
Pedal To The Metal was injured in 2007 and was off the scene for 31 months before resuming racing last month.
The Kinney Hanover gelding produced two solid fourths at his first two appearances after his lengthy absence and was good value at $9.60 on the tote on Friday night.
After being momentarily trapped three wide early, Pedal To The Metal enjoyed a perfect passage in seventh pace in the one-wide line before Young urged him forward, three wide, 300m from home.
The gelding responded well and got to the front on the home turn, passing 5/4 favourite McGintysgoat, who had taken the lead at the 300m mark after working hard without cover. Village Lord, came from the one-out, one-back position to finish second, just ahead of McGintysgoat.
Pedal To The Metal now has earned $69,990 from his 11 wins and 11 placings from 46 starts. He was bred by Mrs Young and is out of Full Cam, a mare who had only four starts as a three and four-year-old for one placing, a second at Northam.
Pedal To The Metal can trace his ancestry back to Light Paree, a smart mare who raced in Perth in the 1960s. Light Paree also produced the talented Andy Todd, who won several races in the 1970s.

Six-year-old Parsonemby gave further proof that she is one of the State’s most consistent mares when she set the pace and was untroubled to win from Sickle Mond in the 2130m DBC Ever Tender Pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Main Event
Parsoneby

Favourite at 5/2 on, Parsonemby dashed past Sickle Mond and into the lead after 200m and she then relished her role of pacemaker. She sprinted the final 800m in 58.3sec. and won by just over a length at a 1.58.6 rate.
Parsonemby, trained by Amanda Suvaljko and driven by her husband Callan, moves to an M1 mark, boasting a wonderful record of 62 starts for 20 wins and 21 placings for earnings of $141,996.
By Parsons Den, Parsonemby is the third foal out of New Zealand mare Appaloosa, whose only other foals have been winners.
Appaloosa’s first foal was Eurodollar (by Million To One), who was an outstanding juvenile performer before being laid low by leg injuries. Eurodollar earned $94,336 from his ten wins and seven placings from only 26 starts.
Appaloosa’s other foals have been Betonme (eight wins and three placings for $41,265 from 24 starts) and Appladay (21 starts for six wins, four placings and $40,107).

Banjup trainer Katja Schreyvogel made a wise decision just over 13 months ago when she outlaid $5100 to claim veteran pacer Scram Jet.
Main Event
Scam Jet

Scram Jet, now an eight-year-old, returned to racing after a spell in a blaze of glory at Gloucester Park on Friday night when Trevor Warwick drove the well-bred Jet Laag gelding to an easy victory in the DBC Timber Hill Claiming Pace.
Scram Jet, a 13/1 chance on the tote, set a scorching pace to leave his rivals floundering. He coasted to a three-length win over outside All In Teck (who trailed him throughout), with Tealsby Karita running on from eighth at the bell to be third. Snowballs A Flying raced without cover and finished fourth, with the 6/4 favourite Spirit of Shard coming from last in the middle stages to be a fair fifth.
Scram Jet, bred at Pinjarra by Ray Grantham, has had 26 starts for Schreyvogel for six wins, six placings and stakes of $57,304.
The evergreen Scram Jet now has earned $166,600 from his 19 wins and 26 placings from 127 starts. He is out of Lady Legacy, a mare who had 23 starts for five wins.
Lady Legacy is out of former smart mare Fiscal Miss (15 wins, 24 placings for stakes of $53,854 from 85 starts). Fiscal Miss produced champion pacers Whitbys Miss Penny (50 starts for 32 wins, six placings and $568,289) and Ace of Whitby (79 starts for 29 wins, 21 placings and $317,247).
Fiscal Miss was out of quality pacer Remit, the dam of eight winners, including Whitby Heritage (66 starts for 22 wins, 18 placings and $201,758), Whitby Timer (44 starts for 23 wins, eight placings and $314,899) and Whitbys Merit (14 starts for ten wins, two placings and $168,598).

Harness racing is a sport of highs and lows and ups and downs, and Byford trainer Ron Huston and the owners of Jay Cee Ess experienced a bitter-sweet success at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Main Event
Shannon Suvaljko & connections of Jay Cee Ess

The lighty-raced Courage Under Fire four-year-old notched a hat-trick of wins when he cruised to an effortless victory over All Courage and Auto Pilot in the 1730m DBC Family of Finest Brands Pace.
However, the celebrations were short-lived when it was discovered that Jay Cee Ess had pulled up sore in the off fore leg.
Jay Cee Ess had won in good style at his first two outings after a four-month absence and was a firm 11/8 favourite on Friday night, with Mr Clancy at 5/2.
Jay Cee Ess began smartly from barrier four and Shannon Suvaljko sent him to the front after 280m and then dictated the terms of the race before sprinting the final 400m in a smart 27.8sec. to win by four and a half lengths.
Mr Clancy started from barrier eight and Bob Mellsop sent him forward, three wide, after 450m to work hard in the breeze. He wilted over the final stages to finish fourth. All Courage ran on solidly from the one-out, one-back position to finish second.
