Harness Racing NSW today inquired into a report from the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) that Boldenone at a mass concentration greater than 15 micrograms per litre in urine had been detected in a post race urine sample taken from MACH WIPER after winning Race 6 the NXFM Newcastle Cup (Group 3) at Newcastle on Friday 9 December 2011.
This finding has been confirmed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Racing Laboratory (HKJC).
Evidence was taken from the Trainer of MACH WIPER Mr L. McCarthy and HRNSW Regulatory Veterinarian Dr M Wainscott. Stewards granted permission for Solicitor Mr G Harris to represent Mr McCarthy.
The inquiry was adjourned until Thursday 26 April 2012 at 10 am at the offices of HRNSW to allow Mr McCarthy to produce further evidence.
After hearing a submission from Mr McCarthy the Stewards lifted the embargo (under AHRR 183A) previously placed on MACH WIPER preventing that horse from starting in a race. As such, MACH WIPER is now permitted to compete in a race.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
