2012 Winner - ELLEN TORMEY (VIC)

Queensland’s Bart Cockburn won the final heat of the 2012 Australasian Young Drivers Championship at Gloucester Park last Friday night behind the Peter Tilbrook trained Strident which led throughout to beat Our Gent (Ellen Tormey) and Full Moon Tonight (Simon McMullan).

Ellen Tormey led throughout the Championship after winning the opening heat at Pinjarra and her second placing on Friday night saw her clinch the title.

It was a particularly sweet win for Tormey after being presented with a wooden spoon for finishing last in the 2011 Championship held in New Zealand.

Cockburn’s last gasp win saw him finished second overall and South Australia’s Ken Rogers finished third.

Rogers was remarkably consistent for while he failed to win a heat he never finished further back than fifth in any of the seven races.

Tormey’s trophy for winning is a boxed framed miniature set of the Victorian colours she carried so proudly to win the title in front of a massive crowd that included her parents.
